Just a simple question. What are the differences between the first generation and second generation clutches?? Is it just diameter and spline size?? Thanks, Marc

First gen is Sachs 13" diameter. Second gen 5 speed clutches are 12. 3" LuK with the same bolt pattern and splines (1. 25 x10). In my experience, the Sachs is a lot beefier, lasts much longer, holds more torque. First gen indexes on a lip at the outside of the flywheel. Second gen uses small bolt holes in the cover, first 3 threads cut out of the flywheel, and shouldered bolts.

Thank you for the reply! The reason I ask is I am putting a Ford ZF 5 speed in my truck. Outfit in Montana that does Ford cummins conversions says I need to use earlier clutch. After what you say I am certain to put the First Generation clutch in. Thank you, Marc

firemanmarc,

Well tests show that the plate loads and torque ratings say the contrary with the two clutches. I also believe the Luk is easier on the leg and smoother engaging. Bigger doesn't always mean better. :D
