Today i was backing the trailer around a corner up a small hill, just letting the truck idle. Total trailer weight about 7000 lbs. i pushed the clutch to the floor to stop and the truck kept on going. it was like i never pushed it in. i worked it in and out a few times trying to make it disengage but it wouldn't. i had to shut it off in gear to make it stop.

after i dropped off the machine i was delivering, i cranked the truck back and the clutch worked perfect. i drove back to our shop no problems. one of our mechanics got in the truck with me and we made it do it 5 more times. It only does it after you put it under a load, like hitting the brakes while in gear for example. the clutch is not slipping. we managed to power brake it in second gear at idle no slipping. Does this sound like the master cylinder or slave cylinder to y'all? it comes from the dealer in one piece, resevoir, line and slave cylinder for $194. anyone with any other ideas please help. i count on the truck everyday and i'm in a jam without it. P. S. it has 53,400 miles, since november 2001. thanks for the help.

It sounds more like a piece of broken clutch plate or a rivet is wedging in-between the flywheel and clutch. Seen this many times but usually when it happens there's no returning to normal. Try to measure the shift fork throw when the clutch is performing correctly and when acting up. If something is wedged in there the shift fork won't return back all the way with the clutch released, if it's the slave it won't go all the way forward with clutch depressed. Could also be a tweaked pressure plate or failing throw out bearing. Hate for you to throw away money on the slave unit if it's ok, I think your problem lies elsewhere.

No clutch under load

You most likley have a failing pilot bearing that is giving you the warning ,just before complete lock up. .

I think i recall you said the pedal worked and went clear down to the floor, and it had normal feel(reistance). . Needle bearing . .

If it were the clutch vibration damper springs or the disk brakeing up and droping between the flywheel you would have not been able to push the clutch to the floor...

And hyd systems dont fail and then come back to life. .

What is going on is the rust /dust & brake up of the metal cage holding the needles in place is binding the input shaft wedging it to the flywheel. It has given you the warning. and let go... The next time you or others may not be so lucky... .

I Know ----- I've been there!!!!!!! And it was a few second in my life that I and a toll booth operator in Pa will not for get... . !!!

Ive posted of this subject for a few years on this site...

Its your $$ and your learning curve--But i'd get the transmission out today!! (It's not Hyd's).

In hind site (trying other bearing/bushing) Save your self the time & $ pull the flywheel and install S. B. Clutch Kevlar bushing.

and while your there install a new input shaft seal (just because)

it might & will leak at some point in the future---and install a new clutch (disc) --because your there---(labor/down time)---Unless you ride the clutch pedal and slip the clutch and the pressure plate is blue it and the throw out bearing will be reuseable . .

Input shaft can be reused, polish the marks/ nicks with 600 emery. Mine has been in place for 400 K ++++

Mine just did the same thing on Vacation. It was the Pilot bearing gone and the clutch plate had cracked 1/2 around and it was cocked in there causing the it to stay engaged...
