How much horsepower and torque increases can the factory clutch handle before an upgrade is necessary?

I have the NV5600 6 speed.

I've got 275's and an EZ in mine as well as a 4" exhaust from resonator rearward. Dynoed in Calgary just before Xmas at 298 rwhp..... and the clutch is still holding. Don't think there's much more in it though-the Drag COMP is gonna waste it I'm quite sure.

Some guys can't even get away with what I've got-I guess I'm just lucky! :D

ETH/DEE too, OEM clutch RIP @ 33,300 miles, 4" muffler back, DD TTM always on III. South Bends going in and more to come!

Ps. That flywheel aint cheap, so if yours starts crapping out, don't mess around.

Probably not unlucky, just one of the masses. mine smoked within 300 miles of putting in dd3's and an ez box. the stock clutch just can not hold the torque on the 6 speeds.

Yeah-you know what the saddest part of all is? I have a Con-OFE sitting on the floor from Peter and the good folks at South Bend-but circumstances have conspired against me to get it installed yet. Hey Peter, is there a shelf life on these things? :D

EZ + 275s + towing = ?????

I have the HO/6speed and an Edge EZ, I am thinking about installing 275 injectors late spring.

I pull a 31 ft 5er roughly 11000 lbs. I will be going from NC to Texas in June/July time frame. Will the stock clutch handle the additional power?? I drive my truck some what conservative. A good freind of mine ran the same situp that I am talking about, he pulled roughly the same weight and his slipped when he got on it hard when pulling his 5er. He has the 3:55 gears and I have the 4:10.

"Reliability" is very important to me, if I need to put in a new clutch before I up grade to the 275s then let me know. I "want" the 275s I don't think I need them.

Thanks

See Ya

rear-end gearing makes a big difference. . the 355s' are harder on the clutch than the 410's...

An ez-alone set on 2 has spun the clutch on a 3500 4x4 i know of...

had 19K on my clutch and slipped on a blue box on 40% lining is gone!!

Got a SB clutch and I can't believe the difference, it def. lock up and wants to Gooooo!

I recomend getting the SB clutch. I got the con OFE for towing and reg use. The FE is for true lockup and drag and stuff.

you have to baby it for a few hundred miles to let it seat in then go go go!

Peter, thanks for the wonderful product!!

Higher RPM is a stock clutches friend. The day I installed my Puck, I smoked my clutch... . this is with 275's also. 1800 to 2200 it would not hold... . above 2200 RPM I had no problems.

It is the low rpm torque of a bombed CTD that will waste a stock ETH clutch... ... now with my Con FE I can use all the power I throw at it... only problem... ... tires wear faster.

A little bit of info, when my clutch started slipping I called TST,they told me that I didn't need to buy their pressure plate cause mine was probobly still fine,so they just sold me the ceramic disk for $250. I pull alot of trailers and it grabs great, I have no complaints. Also it's good for 1000#
