what do you plan to do with the truck? is it a 2500 or 3500? do you tow much, and if so at what weight levels? are you done bombing? 450HP is about all you can squeeze out of the OFE if you stop now you're OK.

the FE is a little more grabby but WILL hold high HP levels. my last truck had 459HP and 1027ftlbs and it was too much for the OFE

The truck is 2500 short bed. I plan on going to o UFM . I do tow a 14000# gooseneck and looking for a fifth wheel but 98% of the time its empty. Thanks

the FE is great clutch, Jonathon is right there. but put 14000#'s behind you and try to back it in somewhere and youre teeth will rattle out of your head.

have you towed with yours yet Jonathon? if so did you take off in second or try to back anything heavy?

i think the FE would be too grabby for towing that kind of weight. on the other hand it would hold towing that kind of weight better than the OFE would above about 400HP.

my vote is; call Peter.

the true problem would be backing that load. maybe the FE and a 2wd low kit is what you should do. then you would have the best of both worlds :D

Get the FE, IT ROCKS.

I've never had a clutch like this in anything. IT's just awesome.

If you're going to the trouble to put one in, put in the best. It's too big of a PITA to do it again. I paid $400 to get mine put in because I didn't want to wrestle it the first time.

Todd, no I haven't pulled with it yet but I will soon...

With clutches this grabby you just have to raise the rpm a little while you are moving the trailers around...

The trailers I pull are too heavy to take off in second, around 25k

Hmmm... when pulling our 5ver, the only way that I can take off is to let out the clutch with no throttle in 1st gear (with 4. 10's) and then gently roll into it once it's moving. If I try to rev it at all and let out the clutch (stock clutch), it feels like the motor mounts are made out of silly putty and goes into the biggest drivetrain shaking fit you've ever seen. You'd swear the engine & transmission were gonna fly out from under the thing!

Mine jerks. I think I am going to replace mine also. With close to 20,000 on the stock clutch and 275's with the EZ and 41,500 miles of heavy hauling overall on the rig I am really thinking about it.

Does anyone know what the limit to the FE is? I've got a McLeod now, and with BD V's, and a UFM, it will slip in 5th and 6th when I need to "get on it. " I realy don't want to have to change my clutch after this next install. It's between the FE and the Mitchell "streetable" clutch..... opinions?

What other mods? hp level?

I know the SBC Con FE rated to 450hp and states no limit reached yet.

I believe it. Ii takes all I can give it and never baulks!!!

KwikKurt just pulled his out after 60k of abouse and said he'd resurface the fywheel and resinstall it if he didn't have a new one.

He was really suprised.

Later,

Mark

The only other mods that I have that would make a difference would be an HX-40. I don't know horsepower level but I'm sure it's up there with the V's and the COMP.
