Driving to work yesterday and suddenly the trans doesn't want to shift I pull over and check the master cylinder for the clutch but fluid is full Trans will not go into gear unless engine is turned off When I start the engine with trans in gear truck wants to move forward I can up shift but I have to rev the engine I can't downshift with out turning off the engine No funny smells or sounds Truck was running fine one minute then it won't shift Truck has 30,000 miles Never raced No burnouts Smarty on 3 I only goose it once in a while to pass slow pokes or to merge into traffic Is there some sort of adjustment I can check I crawled under but only saw a huge trans and couldn't see any rods or anything Is it time for a new clutch

Hows the pedal feel? Does it help any if you pump up the pedal several times and then try to shift, sounds like you may need at the least, new hydraulics.

Low mileage, driven "politely" care to let your dealer have a shot at it first?

There is no linkage to adjust, it either works or causes problems, not noted for problems in my opinion. 30K is low for a pilot bearing failure which causes symptoms like you describe, any noises associated with the clutch? Gear grinding noises are a symptom of the problem, not the starting point. IF something came apart and is caught in between the disc/cover/flywheel, it might make a loose part, shrapnel noise and will prevent clean shifting.

Good luck.

I had the same thing happen to me on my 2006 Dodge Laramie 3500 DRW 5. 9L 6 speed. This happened in the yard. phoned service and they said bring it in, si I called for the truck to pick it up. Of coarse it was late and I had to go to work before he came, but here is the funny... . my wife told me he drove it up on to the truck! Sop when I went to my delear, they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong. It has never happened since. To this day I still can't figure what has happened, and just hope it does not leave me stranded.

Just a little info.

Dan

I know that yours is an 06 and mine an 01, but I had this exact thing happen to me back in May. There are two possibilites:

1) Hydraulics went out (actually had this happen to me a few years).

2) This time 3 screws holding the pressure plate on sheared and made it so one side of the plate was unable to disengage from the disc. Caused exactly the same symtoms you described. If this is what happened to you the transmission has to come out. Hopefully not.
