Just a quick question. Is it okay to shift the 6 speed trans up and down without the clutch? We used to do this in larger trucks. I wasn't sure if there were any drawbacks in the 6 speed.
I never have any grinding at all. Just like if the clutch was being used. just a matter of matching engine and ground speed for the gear. I wondered about possible synchro damage?
From what I understand, it is hard on the syncros. Big truck trannys aren't syncronized, so no problem there. I always use the clutch in the dodge because I've been told by people I have confidence in that it's bad for the syncros.
I was told by a transmission friend, What's easier and cheaper to replace, Synchros or brake pads and shoes? I take mine out of gear coming up to a stop. Not downshifting if I don't really need to. Just my two cents worth.....
