I have a 5 spd in my 95 and I heard that there was a trick you could do so that you wouldn't have to press in the clutch everytime to start it. Does anyone know how to do it? Thanks

You can play with the clutch switch...

I'm not sure if the switch is "N. O. " (normally open) or "N. C. " (normally closed)... .

I think all you need to do is short out the switch/wiring... which would imply that it's a N. O. switch... .

About 4 bucks and it is easy. Dodge wanted $108 for a new clutch switch, go figure!! A nice toggle switch, two butt splices, 12 inches of 16 gage wire and it's done. A minor theft deterrent when mounted with my other switches also.

cut the wires, twist 'em together, wrap some electrical tape around the splice. ;)

a hidden toggle would be wise, lest some fool bump the key with the truck in gear!!!

mine has started with out the clutch pressed in since i bought it i would not recommend this mod because it has scared a few people that have driven it i like Forrest ideal about being able to trun this mod on or off i might try this for starting it when i want to without the clutch but the default setting should be clutch in i wonder if this is possible ?????

edmeyers,

Your idea seems doable. But I think you would have to use a relay or two or maybe just go with two toggle switches(but that might be confusing).

I think there are switches out there that have three connectors on the bottom. One incoming connector and two out going connectors. Depending which way the toggle was flipped would determine if the switch was bein used or not. The switch would be similar to a head/parking light switch or you could use key switch( from an older model car before locking steering wheels).

By-passing switch is easy, setting up toggle switch for start or no start is easy, but to leave switch operational plus being able to crank the eingine without clutch pecal being down is a little more trickier.

Four wheelers like the to by -pass switch so they can crank the engine/drivetrain in gear to get unstuck.

You can get pretty beefy 'barrel lock' keyed switches from Radio Shack (barf!) or any other place that deals with security systems... perhaps even Home Depot...

How about a spring loaded pushbutton switch? You could use those splices that tap into the existing wires and that way, you would have to either push the switch or the clutch pedal for the truck to start. I have been toying with bypassing the switch myself as I have fairly short legs and really have to stretch to engage the clutch switch. But I didn't want my 7 year old way too curious grandson accidentally starting it in gear. BTW, the 1994 service manual shows that the clutch switch is normally open.

Both of my Dodges I just cut the wires at the switch and wrapped them together and taped them. I hated having to push the clutch in to start. The switch only protects stupid people from carelessness.
