1/2 Ton Diesel Pickup

And???? Can you find and set up a link?? Now that the Mahindra has been stalled again I/m in the market for a nice work truck that will get great MPG

I could not justify another diesel with a dpf for my driving distance. So.....

I bought a 1500QC 2wd Hemi last week. Drive is nice, quiet, and with 390 ponies it should be fine for the ROC traffic. (If I remember there is no Jake Brake).

While buying a locking fuel cap the parts guy asked if it was the 1500 diesel... ... WHAT? Apparently it is in the system.

If a 4th gen 1/2 ton diesel is ever released, it should be nice. The only problem is that the 1/2 ton diesel tale has been told for far too many years.

If it does come, it will be interesting to see if it makes it into California.

It might make a nice work truck, Ed, but you can forget about the great MPG. If you want great MPG, get an '03 or '04 with the 305 engine and do the mods I did to mine.

A carefully driven stripped 1/2 ton with the 4. 7 engine will probably approach the diesel MPG (if it ever gets here) and will cost many thousands of dollars less.

I would lay odds that the Mahindra will hit the shores before you see a diesel 1/2 ton from any manufacturer.

It now is being reported on AllPar's website that it is in the dealer MY11 ordering system. The DOE and Cummins has a lot of data on testing since 2001 and is available to read on the internet. Fuel mileage on both Ram,and Durango V6 also was tested it looks to be a UREA,EGR system, for there is test data for both emission systems, noise db ect. I wonder what gear, and tow limits will be,torque is stated around 465ft-lbs.

I would love to see this. A comparable diesel gets 30-40% better fuel economy than a a gasser. Look at the examples from Europe and Japan. If they can do it, so can we.

You're correct, we should be able to do it. This country is still in the 1970's when it comes to power generation and the adaptation of diesel to small cars. Allowing the Punishment Agency to run rampant hasn't helped either.

The other problem is that since we score so low in math, many users cannot see the advantage of the usage variance over the price variance, and dismiss diesel simply because is costs a little more per gallon.

They will, however, line up to buy hybrids for their slight FE advantage, then drive them on the highway at 65 MPH for their supposed advantage, while lugging around the 900# of batteries.

The government does not want efficient consumer diesels in this country. It would kill ethanol deader than a door knob and cut demand considerably as the percent of diesel vehicles increased.

Also, Americans cannot forget the GM diesel fu of the 80s. It was so big that most Americans don't even want to try diesel again.

If I get the chance, I think I will pick up a used TDI Jetta to play with. At 40 - 60 miles a gallon, it is getting hard not to pick one up with the increasing fuel prices, inflation, and devaluing of my money.

JMHO.

IMO, ethanol is already dead due to the price/usage variance going the other way when compared to diesel, and the fact that it is not transportable in pipelines. These factors restrict its use to local markets only.

For ethanol to be viable, you need a dedicated (high compression) engine to take full advantage of the fuel, same goes for natural gas. This, however, precludes the use of any other fuel in the same engine as is done now with the "flex-fuel" option.

Mahindra - WTH?!? Mahindra Clean Diesel Pickup Trucks and SUVs Computer generated pics only. It's a unicorn until I see real pics (besides, it appears to be the same size as a Subaru Baja).

It's not the Government, it is what controls the Govt - BIG OIL.

They will never let the efficient EU type vehicles get here, or allow the local big 3 manufacturers start producing them. It would cut into their 14 Billion (with a "B") quarterly profits.

We have had the technology for clean burning and stupid efficient powerful engines since the 60's, yet here we are still holding on to MPG in the teens to low 20's for most vehicles.

-snip-

I looked closely at the specs on the Mahindra. It appears to be about the size of a Jeep J-10 short bed or maybe a Toyota Tundra. It's kind of interesting. I may have a look at one when they show up. Their tractors are pretty well-proven.

Here's the latest on the Mahindra. It's not looking too good. GV dropped their suit against Mahindra. Then, the FE rating from the Punishment Agency is a lousy 19/21 MPG- certainly nothing to brag about. My signature truck could do that while towing the Mahindra. Their website, www.mahindrana.com, also comes up as a blank page now. There is supposedly a third-generation truck in the works, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
