I was originally hoping for a 4ft 5/8 wave firestik2 antenna, but apparently nobody carries them up here in Canada. I could however get a 4ft cobra 1(inch?) wave (fibreglass) antenna. Do you guys think there would be any difference or reason for concern. I realize how important the antenna is to the whole antenna system.

Also, how would one go about hooking up the swr meter if they have one of those fancy firestik hood mounts (the kind with the round ring on one end of the cable instead of the original plug)?

Thanks all

Hook it up at the coax conn. from the CB to ant. I think that is the best anyway, because the coax is actually part of the ant.

Ok, thanks for setting me on the right path with the swr meter. If I had to choose between a 3' firestik and a 4" cobra, what would be the wiser choice?

wilson not really my thing. Starting to hear a bit of bad things here and there and I think maybe it is because they were bought out by Bajan, who also has tried to buy out firestik, but firestik so far has refused.

One thing I like about my Wilson antennas is that they are thicker. IT seems to eliminate the "antenna-wind whistle" I have heard with the Firesticks.

That's something I can't say I've ever considered. I suppose the whistle could get pretty annoying after a few hundred miles.
