I had to make a run down to Dayton Ohio for a family emergency and about 100 miles from Dayton when I stopped for fuel at a BP the check engine light came on. I had my laptop with me and I am betta testing a new interface for AutoEnginuity's Scan Tool that works with the Dodge Cummins so I ran the codes and only got a PO 1693 code. I reset the ECM and monotored the truck with the laptop for the reat of the trip and no more codes showed up. Today I ran the truck home 400 miles without a hitch. The motor runs fine (before and after the code was set), no stalling, starts easy hot or cold seems to have plenty of power and fuel milage is still good, truck has 176,000 miles on it. I have had dead petal problems several times but it goes a away on its own without setting any codes. Fuel pessure is always between 13 to 16 psi. Without a another code being set I am not sure what to look for, my best guess is the APPS is on its way out, but I would like to hear from others to confirm one way or another.

Thanks

Kyle

Lift pump OR VP44. I just had the same problem. Dont know if you are still under warranty but mine was. The dealer did the VP44 & then the IN-TANK fuel pump. Good Luck

hmmm soo can someone explain what the p1693 code is exactly, im helping my friend bomb his 00' 24v, it runs great, and i checked his codes to see if ther were any, and the p1693 came up, but that code def. doesen't make any sense as to what is wrong and why the code was set.

any ideas on this one??

1693 means there is a fault in the companion module. If you were scanning the ECM that would mean the fault is in the PCM. If you were scanning the Pcm the fault is in the ECM. It is very simple once you understand the translation. 1693 will never be the only code.

Bob

The 1693 code was the only code on the truck I checked it both ways, key on 3 times and my scan tool, same result. I had checked old posts and this seems to be a common issue to have only code 1693 but no one has ever posted (or that I can find) what the cause is and what to fix. The truck always runs fine execpt a dead petal now and again. At this point I have ordered a new APPS and will swap that out. I am also going to clean and repack all the connectors with dielectric silcone as a peventitive messure. I still am hoping that someone out there has a fix for the dead petal and how the code 1693 is coming up.

It should read both, but since it is a "betta test unit" I ran the codes the old fasioned way by turning the key on/off three times to be sure. The AutoEnginuity's Scan Tool is a high tech software using either a computer or high end palm pilot. I have been using it for several years on most of my cars and until recently they only had limited access to the Dodge Cummins.

Kyle

I would test your scanner... ... ..... disconnct a sensor or 2 that is only used for engine controls and see if your scanner will read it. Remember Cummins is can bus your Dodge is not.

Bob

I do that to test the software, usually pull the plug on the map sensor (edge comp side), get both codes. Even if the scanner had issues, I would have seen the codes using the ignition. I just put another 200 miles on the truck today still no issues/codes of any type.

My son has a 2002 2500. Recently he had the I pump and lift pump replaced and now he said the truck is acting 'weird' and he has the 1693 code. Any thoughts on this???TIA

Jim

Mine had 1693 dispayed in the odomemter. Snap on scan tool gave two more codes, one of them was internal pump failure :(

I think I got this one nailed down, I have been running the truck with my EDGE comp off and finally got another set of codes of the P1693 and Code P0237 which is a Map sensor code. Only thing I can figure is the EDGE comp with its boost fooling through the MAP sensor is hiding any codes concerning the MAP sensor when it is on. I have an extra Map sensor and I will change it out this weekend.

Kyle

CrewCab even though my sons truck is bone stock he is getting the 1693 code. Is his pump going out again or is there something else going on??? TIA

Jim

Jim,

It appears that without a scan tool the only code you will see is the P1693(at least on my truck with the second code being a P0237). If you have a Advance Auto Parts or Autozone you can have them scan your truck for free. The only way I was able to see the second code of P0237 was by using a scan tool. I have a computer driven scan tool that I normaly use but the truck didn't send the second code while the EDGE comp was running.

Also do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the truck and what is the PSI? Jim if you got time this weekend bring the truck down to Muskegon and I will run the codes for you, just PM me for contact number.

Question to others out there, how many codes can you read off the odometer at one time ?

Kyle, thanx for the response and I appreciate the offer but I have a good friend that is a DC tech and he is going to look after it. Thanx anyway.

Jim

Any update on these two codes? My truck threw this combination yesterday when I started the engine to drive home from work. It threw both of these about 3 years ago while I was drag racing one weekend, but the CEL light went out after a couple days and I have not had a single issue since then.

I'm sure there is avtually nothing wrong on my truck, as I havea fuel pressure guage and I still have 15 - 18PSI at the VP44.
