well dont know your year of your truck.

so this may not work for yours.

cycle the key forward, backforward, back, forward. without starting the truck or triggering the starter. leave keep in the forward position. your odometer should digitally display your codes if any. or people are using a (smarty) any obd II scanner.

You can buy a decent code scanner at any auto parts store, many Wal-Marts, or online retailers. For a 2nd Gen Dodge Ram you'll need one that's OBDII compliant. Late Dodge Ram trucks need a code scanner which is CAN compliant. The more you spend the more "frills" and capabilities you'll get built into the scanner. All but the cheapest will not only allow you to read trouble codes, but will reset the check engine lamp.

A good alternative to a code scanner is the Scangauge. This device not only reads and clears trouble codes, but also functions as a real-time trip and fuel management computer for about the same price as a good quality code scanner.

On the extreme end of the price range, you can go to eBay and buy a Chrysler DRBIII diagnostic computer which is made by Miller SPX for about $3000. It does much more than any aftermarket code scanner can, including the ability to run powertrain and chassis diagnostic tests, and reflash the ECM and PCM.

Best regards,

John L.

I wish I could come across a drb or star scan, I would be in hog heaven, that is one thing I miss about working at the dealership was having the scan tools at my disposal.
