Hi Guys

My truck threw these 3 codes tonight P 1652 P 0243 and P 0480 after picking it up from having the remote starter and alarm put in. I had the Viper 791XV 2-Way Security and Remote Start System installed by a DEI certified installer put them in that has put them in alot of 3rd gen trucks. When I picked the truck up i noticed the check engine light was on and the installer told me it was on when he started the truck. I said I did not think so but he said take it to the dealer and if they said the alarm was the problem to bring it back. Can someone tell me what the codes are please to save me a trip to the dealer :-{}

These are the code definitions. Does the truck run ok and does everything appear to work correctly??

P0243 Generic Turbo/Super Charger Wastegate Solenoid A

P0480 Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit/Open (Low Speed Fan Relay)

P1652 J1850 Communication Bus

The MIL/CEL may go off by itself after a number of start and drive sequences. He could have caused the codes while installing with key on or tapping into power circuits. If everything works and the truck runs ok, they will probably go away on their own. You might give it a day or two and see. Dealer may give you a hard time about the install, but they can check and see if anything is wrong and clear the codes.

Thanks JVOLPE.

if i remove the negative battery terminals for about 10 minutes that should clear the codes too?

I don't think disconnecting the batteries will clear the codes or reset the ECM. New computer systems can retain code information without battery connection, at least in my testing.

Clearing Codes

anybody else have a thought on if disconnecting the batteries will clear codes and reset the ECM? i thought it would

Any Idea on about how many trips it will take? Does the trip have to be a certain duration or number of key cycles? :{

A good trip is a startup with some run time and a shut down. The number varies with the importance of the code. The code will still be in memory but the light will go out.

A bully dog downloader is the best to clear codes. Worst case scenario you will have to start and turnoff your truck 40-50 times to have the codes clear...
