Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Code help

My sons 01 quit this week and we believe it to be at least the LP and at 120K probably the VP44. Fuel pressure on the gauge varies between 1 and 15 on crank. We can sometimes get the truck to start but dies when throttle is depressed. Key up codes P1693,P1691 and P0370. We will be going with Glacier for a pump and suspect a VP44. anyone know what 1691 and 0370 mean?

1691-fuel injection pump controller calibration failure . 0370 fuel injection pump /position sensor siginal lost. looks like you may need a vp-44 pump. make sure all the connections to the pump are clean and tight. hope this helps.

Try first to replace the CPS. It may be the one that is bad, from the codes showing. It's around 50 bucks and readily available.

The CPS can be bought at any dealer or at any Cummins shop. At the dealership I paid $80 but the priced varied from dealer to dealer up to over $120. At the Cummins NW in my area they wanted $36 but I was going camping the next day & it wasn't available until the next day. I paid the $80. . It's located behind the starter. Pull the starter, unplug the wiring from the CPS, & rotate while pulling out. Their kinda a bi%#! to get out but not too bad.

On 01 it should be like mine- right underneath the VP-44, kind of tough to get to. I bought the CPS at the Dodge dealer, about $48, and tried replacing it myself. I couldn't get to it, was frustrated, and took it to the dealer, the guy had it changed in less than 15 min. I think I paid $35 labor. I have receipts.
