I have a friend with a 98 24 valve 5 speed that is cutting out, he said usually when stepping down on it pretty hard such as pulling a hill or passing someone. He is usually pulling a trailer but I am not sure if it does it empty also. I was thinking an APPS problem, but when I checked codes today it had p0234 for turbo overboost. He said the check engine light will come on when it acts up and go back out. I believe the truck has aftermarket injectors, turbo, airdog pump and a diablo powerpuck. Does the powerpuck do boost fooling? A picture of one looks like it has plug in for the map sensor. Truck has been set up this way for quite a while and he acted like it just recently started acting up. Will an overboost condition cause the truck to cut out like that?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Matt

What do you think would be causing the overboost condition? I am thinking that removing the powerpuck and trying it for a while would the next step.
Thanks,
Matt

the early power pucks had no boost fooling and the later models could have a failure that would allow the ecm to detect high boost

I will have him remove the powerpuck and try it out, he has been talking about upgrading to a Smarty so this may be a good excuse.
Thanks,
Matt

Removed the Powerpuck in favor of a Smarty and all is well again. Truck is a lot more responsive also, it got to where it was acting up just running down the road at 55 or so not getting on it at all. Owner said this was the second Powerpuck he has had some sort of problem with, both had some age on them though.
Thanks for your help.
Matt
