Does anyone know specifically what code P1693 is telling me? I know I have a problem with my APPS (power cuts out at times once I am up to temp), but is this code related or something different?

If I remember the code (don't have the book with me, running on my lousy memory), it boils down to there being a trip in the pcm because the ecm logged a trip.

It is a companion code. It just means that there is a code stored in one of the comptuers. When you scan the ECM, it just says there is a code in the PCM. It can happen in the other direction also.

The code 1693 itself means nothing.

If you have an '01 or newer, cycle the key on-off-on-off-on with out starting and wait. The odometer will show the P then E codes.

I just cycled my key to see if I had a code set because I have been experiencing shifting/torque converter issues. I also have a 1693 code set but no others.

The only symptoms I have been having is when the transmission shifts from 2nd to third and also from 3rd to 4th, it shifts up and down rapidly. I have had a Sun Coast transmission and torque converter installed for over two years now and I also have the TC lock up computer. I thought it might be the infamous TC lock and unlock problem but I engaged the lockup computer and I still experience up and down shifting so I think it might be the transmission or a control signal going to the transmission. NOT SURE.

I have done all the wiring mods (foil on the ground near the alternator, Sun Coasts APPS wiring modification and I cleaned the grounds some time ago. ) I don't have a code reader to see any further codes.

Question: 1). What is a GOOD code reader to purchase which has all the bells and whistles?

2). IS this a problem in the transmission or is it a ECM/PCM problem? Any Suggestions?
