2000 2500 QC 4X2 Auto 4:11's California certified.

CEL twice in one week. Code P1740 both times. Reset, cleared codes with scan tool. Trans seems to work fine. I searched for previous posts. Only fixes mentioned were to replace speed sensor and middle solenoid. Is the mid solenoid the one that controls converter lockup? If anyone has part #'s it would be much appreciated.

Also mentioned was that Ca. certified trucks were, are prone to this. Can the PCM, or would it be ECM. Be reflashed with Fed program? Or would this create other issues?

I just bought this truck used with 78K mi. Very clean but with no service records. According to Dodge parts tech my truck was factory equipped with 245 tires. It now has 285's. If the speedo was not recalibrated for the change in tire size, could this be causing CEL code to be stored? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. (getting a six speed isn't one :-laf )

Thanks, Walt

Does the code only set before the engine/trans comes up to full temp? Is it the stock trans? I know you bought it used so that might be tough to answer. Does the truck feel like the torque convertor is going into lockup?

I know you wanted answers and all I'm doing is asking questions, but we have to start somewhere...

Bigger tires will not cause the codes-any codes. I believe there is more to the California motors than just programming in the ECM and PCM. I also believe that you might have problems finding someone to reprogram them as it is a violation of CARB an really only Marco and the dealers can do that.
