Hello again to you all in CTD land. I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction for a good but reasonably priced code reader.

Being the redneck son of a redneck son I was always taught that if you checked all the vitals, and if it runs good, darn the light and unplug the battery so you don't have to look at it. But I figure if I'm gonna Bomb it (within reason) I better know what it's sayin to me.

P. S. Does any body have any input on the sound of 4" Stainless flex compared to my 4" straight pipe. I don't know if it's my buddies truck or just the flex on the exhaust that makes it sound so mean.

Thanks for the help.

You can cycle the key on-off-on-off-on (w/o starting it) to read the code numbers and then call the dealership or someplace and ask them about it. The only code reader I have used is the Snap-on one and even a used one well run $500+ pretty easy.

Hi Holmanrd ,I just recently bought a code reader. it is and Actron and it does everything but take a "snapshot" of the DTC. I paid around $100 for it online but they also make a smaller less expensive on that doesn't give the code, you have to look it up. Mine also clears codes and that alone is worth it. I bought mine from www.tradervar.com but you might check around for other prices.

Thank you all for your input. I will try the key on off trick again but I think I will check out the reader for about $100. 00, sounds like it's worth it so I don't have to disconnect the battery to cancel the code.

Thanks again for the fast reply.
