It mainly depends on what you want, kinda like moding the trucks plan ahead and spend less and get just what you need. on the low end acess to most codes and codes only at the other end a pro all codes , data even hand held scope in one, I didn't get your link to come up[ so I need more info to see what you're looking to do] most likly my end. I know the pro end and have never used a cheap just code reader.

I have an Innova 3100 OBDII Code Reader that I have had for a couple of years at least. It works fine for what it is. Just reads and clears generic codes.

The 3110 CANOBD2 says it can do Manufacturer specific codes and such. If you try it I would like to know how well it works. If it really can be flashed with or has Chrysler Dodge Cummins specific code database then it would worth the money(Around $200).

On our 3rd gen trucks even though the PORT is OBDII almost all the data is CAN bus format. So you can only get a fairly small amount of generic data by using a generic OBD II tool. You need to be careful here because sometimes people assume that the OBDII port means that the protocol and data are all OBDII. That's not the case.

These guys here http://www.autoenginuity.com/ are coming out with the complete DiamlerChrysler CAN BUS support on November 15th on all their vehicles, including the Cummins. I'm 100000% jazzed about this. The version of their software on November 15th will be 4. 0. The current version 3. 6 of their software has all DC codes through 2001 including the CTD.

I spoke with the owner, developer and chief programmer (His name is Jay ;) ) and he is a really good guy. He said they just finished negotiations with DC to get all their data through 2006 I believe.

I can't wait to get this product and hook up my laptop once they go to 4. 0.

JGann,

That is good news, I spoke with them about 3 months ago and they were very unclear about when they would have Dodge Cummins specific code database available. Please keep us updated when you get the update. There package is what I was leaning toward except for the current Cummins specific code database.

I guess I am spoiled, access to an updated drb111 and the new star scan and almost monthly updates, the aftermarket stuff pales in comparison. :D

It does. There is no true replacement for the original. And most of us can't afford the cost of the several thousand dollar machines that the dealer purchases. But these autoenginuity folks have earned a pretty good rep. pretty quick. Looks like some fun stuff to play with.

Follow up. I bought the Innova 3110 and it is just what I was looking for. It does give manufacturer specific codes. Thanks again for the replies.

I just ordered the Innova 3110 from etoolcart.com

They have it at $179 with free shiping AND includes the ODB2-PC Link software. The link software allows you to download update flashes or analyze scan data on your PC.

It seems like a nice Christmas present to myself :)

I just did some reading on their site and I have found it outstanding! You can load it in a palm even! I'm saving up for this I think!

Pulling this thread back up to see if the latest version of the software (4. 0. 1) has all the cummins codes for the newer trucks?

I have a 2001 and a 2005, and want a single setup that will work on both vehicles.

Thanks.

autoXray 5000 series does obd 1,obd 2, and can. reads all makes and most foreign. w/pc cable you can down load all new versions from your pc as autoxray makes them available on their web site. $499 at checker auto also in most auto accessory catalogs.
