Code Reader

Hi All,

I am looking for a code reader that will read OBDII,ABS codes and it wood be great to be able to read air bag codes too but not a must. My wifes car a 98 Chevy malibu, has a abs light on all the time and would like to fix it but also looking for the best bang for the buck. Would like to get some thing that will work on the truck too or a computer base program; but don't what to brake the bank.

Trying to get all three in one unit will cost over $1,000 for a good, well respected machine that will be upgradable later.


You can get a generic OBD code reader for $40 and tack on the ABS/airbag machines for another $200-300.

You can get OBD with ABS but finding airbag along with them is difficult.

My wifes car is an audi. The stealers here all charge 130 just to read the codes. The audi is one of those manufacturers that uses some proprietary protocols and codes so you have to do some research to ensure you get a complete workable solution. I found a very good reader called a roadi on amazon dot com for 140 that paid for itself the first day. It reset the codes and they have not come back. The dealer would have told me to fork over 2 grand to fix the evap and O2 sensors. So the brand is a good one IMO.

Thanks for the help I am still looking I really need the ABS reader. I really don't whet to go to some mechanic or the steller. I found a pc base program that did everything it is $1300 for it. I am hoping to find some thing for 200-300 price range.

Our watchdog unit will display PIDs and read and clear codes. its only $299 retail

The VAG-COM software seems to read my Dodge and Subaru with equal ease as well.

I have been out of town and have not had time to look in to them yet. This is not a big rush but do what to get it done in the next six months. Equus 3160 Innova ABS + Professional CanOBD2 Diagnostic I was shown this one and it looks like the one I will get but if there is something better for close to the same price I will look at it too.
