What is the best most easy to use tool on the market for around $300. 00? I have a 1999. Thanks

Check out the scan tool at Advance Auto... . They hang behind the desk. Orange Actron scanner... . it costs $180 & works great..... I've been using one for 2 years & love it. It gives codes in plain text & clears them fast.

Jim,

Do the trip computer functions of the ScanGauge work well? Is the fuel economy average or instant?

Thanks, Jon

To tell you the truth Jon, I have not fooled with the fuel stuff all that much. I keep detailed fuel records.

From messing with the little that I have, the thing kicks out fuel comsumption rate in just about any way you want to look at it. It does require some set up with your tank size and thats the part that has always stopped me concerning fuel economy. If I traveled allot, I would likely work on it some more.

FWIW it can also reset codes, on the fly while you are driving. It can supposedly also display parameters that are not default. One of the ones I am looking into is oil pressure, but I have to find out the memory address in the ECM to refer to in order to make it work. If that is possible.

It also does some cool stuff like max RPM max MPH per trip per day etc... .

A word of caution, if you get one don't mess with it when you driving. This is also carefully explained in the instructions, which I promptly ignored and almost ended up in my neighbors yard.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I keep a paper/calculater record too, but would like an instantaneous readout of economy. It's probably built into the overhead function, just needs to be activated somehow.
