Do these codes mean my injector pump is going south? I've been having problems with my Blue Chip Pump cover on getting a good connection and right when I thought it was running good without chugging I hook onto my 5th wheeler and bike trailer on the truck and it starts chugging again going down the highway. Not bad but you can feel it. So I'm starting to think maybe I have a good connection but when I'm pulling a load the injector pump is acting up.

So I'm taking it to the Dealer tomorrow to have them check it out. about a month ago they put a new lift pump on when it was doing the same thing, Aaron at Edge sent me a new Comp box. So now I'm confused.

Will the dealers know somethings up when they see the codes?

thank you

Umm, can you send me a PM on this topic, too?

I got the same result... 1693 and 0253. And the engine light came on, but went out later. Checked all the conections and have good voltage to the pump wire with key in on position. All ideas welcome. I'm not opposed to sending the box in to be looked at.

Thanks

I just had the 1693, and the 0234 show back up. I have a buddy that has an OBDII scanner, and kept it for a weekend while I did my driving around from the first time they showed up. Launches and WOT did not reset the codes so I figured that all was well.

Over the 4th of July weekend, I took a trip to my cabin and while in the fury of passing slow-movers, I encountered "Turbo Bark" for the second time (oddly enough on the same stretch of road). I am now leaning towards that as the cause of setting the over-boost code (0234) and the companion dealer code 1693.

Does turbo bark sound like it would be a cause for the codes returning? Any one else able to attribute that to the codes showing up?

I see we live in the same town. Also can you send the PM to my work e-mail , Thanks

Will the dealership notice anything?

does this mean the injector pump is out?

Do a search on those codes. I am pretty sure that 0234 is an overboost code picked up by the MAP sensor. The cold fear of panic code is 0216 - Injector timing failure, or something close to it.

Cummins-man, If you still need them (Codes) then "E" me and I will look them up at the shop tomorrow... L8tr Kurt

In my 01 Service Manual,

P1693 is Diagnostic Trouble Code Detected in 1-Companion Module or 2-PCM/ECM

P0234 is Turbo Boost Limit Exceeded - indicating a problem in waste gate

P0253 is Fuel Injection Pump Fuel Valve Open Circuit - Problem sensed with fuel circuit internal to fuel injection pump

Hope that helps.

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to check for codes without any special computer like OBDII. Does anyone know? How are you reading codes. I have looked in the Service Manual without much success so far.

Checking for codes

Didn't go to look it up but if memory serves me right turn the key to on (without starting) and then back off 3 times. On the third time leave it on and watch your odometer - codes should show there one at a time.

I checked all the connections, and all seemed good. I tried it again, and sure enough, the engine light came back on, and now I have the same codes as above, plus 0252. Also the engine light wont go out, been on for two days. I think I am just gonna take the box off to see if the engine light goes out.

Just for the heck of it, anyone that gets a code related to the Map Sensor should try a good dose of dielectric grease at the Map plug connections. I had the same codes, including the 0253. They all went away and stayed away after I re-greased the map plug. I have no idea how the MP affects the 0253 code, but it worked for me.
