So after 139000 Hard Miles Looks like My VP44 has died. I am on my 7th lift pump, I have done everything i could do to prolong the life of the VP44. First time the truck has left me dead on the road in 12 years. :{

Do you doctors of diesel agree with my diagonsis??

Thanks

Chris

Hey Chris, what kind of lp have you been running? The Carter pumps have always been mediocore at best.
There are lots of replacement electric pumps on the market that are capable of putting out the proper fuel pressure your vp needs and are much more reliable than the carters. I see your in Alaska, if your running in remote areas alot you may want to consider a mechanical pump that is belt driven off the crank. Ive heard nothing but good things about them, no electric motors to go bad purely mechanical. I will most likely go this route when my AirDog burns up. Google DTT Assasin, they are one of the more common pumps Ive read about and have not heard anything negative about them yet. Good luck,
JR

The reason the mechanical pumps are not more popular is they come with their own head aches. Not worth it imho from what I have experienced.

Can you elaborate more? Ive not heard one bad comment from anyone so far. Seems like a very simple design, whats failing on them?

A good example would be the KORE race suspension I put on my truck,great reveiws from owners. I kept it on my truck less than 6 months,I had bought it from a friend who had become the west coast distributer at a very good discount.

Bob, I wasnt doubting you in any way, you seem like an extremely knowledgeable person. Ive been following anybody who posts personal experiences about mechanical pumps for the last several months mainly due to the number of failures Ive heard about from the newer electric pumps. Ive got 2 friends locally that have less than 2 years on their newer style FASS pumps. They have been covered by warranty, but Ive also heard of alot of similar experiences both from AirDog and FASS owners. I do realize for every failure reported theres probably a hundred (or more) reliable pumps running and performing flawlessly that you just dont hear about. Ive got an almost 5 yr old AD 100 that has worked great, just seems like I see more and more warranty issues being reported which has been the main reason Ive been looking at the mechanical pumps. :)

No worries. What I would like to see is somebody making a higher volume in tank pump like they do for Gassers. I am guessing the profits would not be high enough as the only reason it hasn't been done.
The good news is that another Good company may throw their hat into the arena of aftermarket pump systems

Ha everybody is hanging Customer took me to lunch and señor Patron took over. I won't spill the beans but as always more to come
