I've been chasing a ghost for awhile, before I had a Van Aaken box that made my truck "chuggle". The Superchips Tuner I have now was good at first and then it was doing the same thing. Without the boxes everything was smooth but I always got a recurring 380 and 382 codes for the intake grid heaters. I replaced the entire grid heater assembly,no change, the codes would pop right back after being cleared. I also replaced the MAP sensor and IAT sensor. The truck seemed to smoke a little more than necessary and I could tell the power wasn't quite there. Today I was poring over some wiring diagrams from ShopKey and I noticed that the codes in question would be set if the IAT grounding circuit had a problem. It showed about 4 or 5 ground wires going to a gang ground right in back of the starter and up a little on the engine block. It's a little deceiving because it shows the wires being black with light blue but they are junctioned in the harness and a black with white is the one actually going to the block. It's kind of a bear to get to but I found it to be well worth it. After cleaning the ground point and applying dielectric grease to it I took it for a drive with the Superchips installed. The result was that everything cleared up,monster power and smoothness.

Now,I saw previous posts discussing how a truck would run better in the afternoon than in the morning, and mine would do the same, though I thought I was crazy at first and why would that be? Now it all comes into view, the ambient temperature is higher in the afternoon, generally,so even though the IAT sensor wasn't doing it's job because it wasn't grounding properly,a simple change in air temperature would affect how the engine ran. Now that the system is grounding and the IAT and associated grounds are correct I can expect that all of the gremlins will be gone for good. I would highly suggest that if all the common repairs have been done on a non-performing truck and driveability problems still exist that this particular ground be attended to,it made all the difference for me.
