codes 45 and 46, what problems has anyone found?

Codes 45 (od solenoid short) and 46 code the charge system volts too high. Could anyone narrow the search down to what part(s) was the problem?

For code 46 my manual says, for over charge issues to check for grounded generator field wire, field terminal, or connection, or simply your alternator is bad take to an auto parts store they can test it.
