The other day coming back from a job with about 18k behind me, the ETC warning light came on. This happened while climbing a hill driving in cruse. The truck shifted down to 5th, then down to 4th, that is not unusual, it has done that a thousand times, but this time the light came on. The codes that came up, I've never seen or heard talked about before. P000F, P0087, P0106, and P0148. I know what they all are and I believe the over pressure relief valve opened up and caused these codes. Will it close back and the code go away or will it have to be replaced. Has anyone run into this or have an answer for me. The truck is running fine, pulls normally although it seems to be a little weak on the high end, and is stock, nearly 164,000 miles on it, no enhancements (chips) have ever been put on it.

Indeed, P000F/P0087/P0148 are indications that your dump valve opened which caused low rail pressure. This valve will re-seat but the question becomes "what caused it to pop in the first place?" The first things to look at are low pressure restrictions/problems - a bad lift pump, plugged fuel filter. I mentioned the valve will re-seat... . there is a time span for how long or how many times the valve can be opened, your local Dodge dealer can check these times w/ StarSCAN.

P0106 is for intake manifold pressure, this could be an intake leak or perhaps a bad intake air throttle.

Help me out here guys. If an over pressure relief valve comes on? how is that related to low pressure restriction problems???? Seems to me it would be the opposite??? There has to be something I am not getting! :)

I would rather suspect too high a fuel pressure due to too much fuel going into the pump when you're coasting and it needs no fuel. The FCA is supposed to close off the fuel coming into the pump when the injectors don't open. Maybe failing FCA.

EB,

I don't know the answer to your question but would advise against racing to a dealer and reaching for your wallet to pay for a pile of new parts.

My truck ran for a week and 3,000 miles with a code set and then suddenly cleared the code itself with no trace of a problem.

It may have been a minor and simple transitory issue that will go away after a sufficient number of key cycles. If it still starts, runs, and pulls a load normally with normal fuel mileage I'd run it a couple weeks and watch. You'll know if power is down.

I doubt that any dealer techs have a lot of experience with the 6. 7 engine yet and if you insist, a tech might do some expense guessing at your expense.
