Well..... I was pulling out on to the highway and the truck just shut off! :{

No stumble or sputter. . nothing! Coasted off to the side and plugged in my scanner and got Codes P1688, P1689. These codes are "Internal fuel inj. pump controller failure" and "No communication between ECM and inj. pump module". Away it went to the local Cummins dealer. They are going to check it out today but the tech says it is probably in need of a new VP-44. :{ My truck is a stock '99 (110,000 miles) with no box, new lift pump and decent fuel pressures. Why would the pump just crap out? Could it be the something else such as electronics?

Should I replace it with a better pump (Piers??) and how much $$$ more is a better pump over a stock replacement from Cummins? Any advice from those that have been through this is greatly appreciated.

dlange,

Please tell me more. What connections did you find bad and did you get the same codes? I would hate to replace my VP-44 $$$ when its just a bad connection. Did your truck just go dead or did it show other signs?

Thanks

P1688
