I posted this in another thread but did not get any response.

During my oil change last weekend I decided to check for codes and found three of them.

P0500 No vehicle speed sensor. My speddometer is still working so what would cause this. Is it something to worry about?

P0234 Turbo boost limit exceeded. How does this happen. My truck is still stock. I am concerened that this caused damage to the turbo?

I also P1693. This just tells you that other codes have been set right?

Thanks for the help.

I doubt that you have anything to worry about.

I have set the same codes at various times. The P0500 can sometimes will be set when the engine is revved up in neutral and held for a awhile. My throttle kicker will sometimes set it.

The P0234 can because the wastegate might stick. This has happened to me after a period of time that I hadn't really climbed on to the throttle and not opened the waste gate. Then when I did it stuck a little and set the code.

The P1693 is a standard code that just indicates that a code had been set.

As a follow up to the above codes being set I check the codes again during the last oil change. The same codes are still in the computer. Is this something to worry about? I have also noticed that the truck smokes more now than it used to. Not sure what is causing this. It is more apparent when you get into the throttle, especially when getting onto the highway. I planned to have the truck go to the dealer one final time before the warranty runs out but want to get some info prior to taking it. The truck has 95,500 miles now.

Thanks for the help.

Btw, Why Did You Check Codes If There Was No Check Engine Light?

Curiosity I am sure, I check mine once a month.

Sorry about above, I accidently clicked "edit" instead of "quote"

I checked the codes as part of my regular preventative maintenance schedule. Any infor on the codes being related to the excess smoke?

I do the same thing.

As far as the codes being related to the smoke (mainly the boost code), It could be another indicator. Check your wastegate (PITA) to see if it is moving OK, or stuck. If it stuck closed, that would set the boost code, if it is stuck open, that would certainly kill any boost pressure, thus significantly less air in the cylinders, thus more smoke/loss of power.

I can not confirm this, but I am convinced that even a passive code in the system (READ - codes but no check engine light) causes the PCU/ECU to make little adjustments in the operation of the engine. I have set the boost code several times, and it seems like it runs better after I clear it.

The only sure way to do it is to hook up an OBDII scanner and it will clear them. You can either go to the stea... dealer (not recommended - $$$) Autozone will do it for free, or buy one yourself.

I actually have mine going to the dealer in a few weeks for the last service before the warranty runs out at 100k. I am going to have them check the codes then.
