Well I finally got around to doing the install on a Cold Air Intake kit from PSM Manufacturing as seen in the last TDR. Although this kit for my 2003 ran a little more than I wanted to spend "Santa" got it for me, and there are no moving parts and nothing to wear out so I guess it is worth it. The instructions, with pictures were very easy to follow and the total from start to finish time was about an hour. Havent had it long enough to report on the EGT results but it has to help lower them. You can view the kit at www.psmbuick.com and the price was $130 to my door.

Not to be an ***** or anything, but in the latest issue there is a write up on how to build the same thing from ABS pipe and fittings from Lowes for about $110 cheaper. Why not do that, then you have money for other bombs. :)

I did it with a dryer duct flange and metal 4" dryer flex hose and a 90* 4" elbow. Cut a 4" hole in the bottom of the air cleaner box, bolted in the duct flange, cut off a 2' section of flex hose and clamped it to the elbow. Added a tab to bolt the elbow behind the bumper vent opening (no fog lights) and was done in 1/2 an hour... about $20. Don't know if this actually helps performance but I feel better!

In response to J Hofmann I say read the post earlier from DJamrose entitled "ABS Pipe Where To Get It". I live 10 miles from the nearest town and 30 miles from the nearest "Lowes". I enjoy fabricating and creating and saving money as much as the next guy, but for me this was best. Others may find other ways to do the same thing. I had no adjenda just wanted to report on the install as I had not seen it reported before and thought others may be interested. Have a nice day.

I have misplaced my last issue, if anyone has time, could you scan the article on how to make this mod, and either post it or pm me with it?

Thanks guys!

UPDATE... never mind, found issue 50... thanks!

So... Have you noticed any difference? EGT? MPG? Sound?

I don't drive much only have 19K on my 03 and until the weather warms up I wont have any good runs to tell for sure but so far the EGT seems to be about 50-75degres cooler, no noise increase and too soon to get MPG figures.

My stock airbox was modified early on and the EGT's went down about 100º+- 50º degrees using the stock paper filters. Mostly what I noticed was, that I didn't draw the filter minder down when pulling heavy and i got a slight increase if fuel economy.

The only negatives after 3 years with this modification are the paper filters get dirty real fast I need to change them every 15K instead of 30K as prescribed. Also it is slightly louder at WOT.

The last issue of the TDR has a great how-to idea to add a 4" hole. I did a 3" hole you can see the photos in my reader rigs album.
