RASP Pump Availability

 I just bought a 2006 dodge 3500 4x4 QC 6 speed with CTD. I wanted to know what air filter is better one made by volant, afe, K&N, or stock. I see that a lot of people dont like the oiled Gauze filter, and say they dont filter as well as paper. Is this true? What about the filter raps that you put around the AFE,Volant, and the K&N. Do these make them more efficient? My wife purchased the Violant for me as a suprise, but I dont want to install it if there is going to be question as to its filtering ability. I will send It back and stay stock.

I have installed psmbuick cold air intake with the Cool Blue Hose on my 04. 5 and I really like it. Paper is the best filtration but the worse for flow. Most of the aftermarket filters have better flow but not as good on filtration. Without the cold air intake and a new Dodge filter in the box I could pull down the filter minder at WOT. Now with the cold air intake I have not been able to do that. This is all the air I'm going to need for my truck. It picks up cold air from just behind the passenger side front bumper and it still uses the stock air intake, so you don't have to worry about sucking up water. Easy to install, or find out in a recent TDR (Don't recall what issue #) on making your own using parts from the local hardware store.

I installed a K&N onmy 04 and I love it. Gave me some truck sounds back like I can now hear my turbo. Yes I have turbo wine and I love it. Also I think I got about a 2 mpg increase out of my truck.

Here's my version of cold air for my 06'. Staying with the stock paper for best filtration. EGT's are down 100deg while towing. No real difference with EGT's or mileage when empty.

Have you pulled any water into the paper filter with your setup?

It hasn't rained alot since install. It's hard to see in the pics but, there's dip in the aluminum intake before heading upto the airbox. I placed the dip to eliminate the splash effect. I'll know more in October.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing but don't know if it would make much of a difference. Would you post it when you do it and let us know if you notice a difference. I'll know same if I get it done before you.
