I found a battery at NAPA that has 1150CCA. Would it cause any damage to my system by using a battery rated that high? I read other post regarding the Die Hard # 27712 with 1025CCA is a good replacement, but it would take two weeks to a month to get one. My battery has started to leak water from the top and is making acid on my tray - Got to get rid of it soon! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.



PS-I've been giving out and leaving TDR flyers with people and in trucks I encounter in the neighborhood... hope to get more folk from So. Cal. Patrick :D
 
Get some baking soda to neutralize the acid and wash it off it will corrode the heck out of the batt posts. I think you will be O K with a higher rated CCA rating.

CCA vs Cost

OK, this is what I've learned from my supplier here at the bus garage and electrical seminar.



I have the Deka 700cca group27. Our trucks require #27. If everything is go for launch that is all u need. If you installed the battery farther away from the starter and or a whole-bunch more lights/acc you WOULD have to increase the CCA along with a larger alt. I don't know about your's, my alt is 70 amp. So,,,,,I'm told by increasing the cca you will NOT inflict damage upon said unit,HOWEVER you will now have a ton more amps to crank that CTD over and in doing so will have the ability to do so much longer thus toasting your starter if, say, the CTD will not come to life right away. I hope it starts like right now or keep an extra starter on hand.



My school busses employ either 3 group 31's at 815 cca or 2 group 8D's at 1300cca. BUT,,,,the batteries set a good distance from starter/use a 130amp alt,and the bus has like 130 lights/6 heater blower motors etc,etc,etc



I use the lowest cca in the bus. Why you ask. If she doesn't plug her bus in, cranks the cummins over till the batteries die, I still have a starter! With super-duty-megatron-power batteries,it's history :{ :mad: :-{}

Scott, according to my window sticker and FSM, the diesel engine comes with 120 Amp alternator and 1025 Amp battery. Maybe you are looking at specs for a gas engine?:confused:
 
I have been using one of the NAPA 1150CCA batterys for about three years now. I has given me no problems. The alt does not care what size CCA battery is behind it.



The battery before it was killed when a grid heater relay stuck in the closed position. :(
 
Napa Battery

Philip. Would you have the number for the 1150 cca Napa battery. . The Napa house I deal with isn't so hot on findind the correct numbers.



Any help will be appreciated.

Alternator Amps

My window sticker reads 70 amps. I'll look at it again that may be for a gasser. My Ford gasser has the 120 amp, I know because I put one in it.
 
CCA-1155...

:D RamAZ the part number for the NAPA 1155CCA battery is #7269, the cost in So Cal is $126. 00. When I went to pick my it up this morning the parts driver had not returned, the warehouse said they did'nt have one, they lied. Anyway had them call the store closer to my house and bought a #7237 in stock that reads 950CCA on the battery and lists 1220CCA in the computer screen. I bought the 7237 for $82. 16. Hope this helps you get the battery you want. I usually ask salespeople to go touch the part before I get there... live a learn :mad:

DEKA!!

Group size is important too. A group 31 (big truck batt) will fit perfectly in our trucks. If you can find a Deka distributor, get what i have, Deka group 31 PN 1231PMF 1260cca at32F, and most importantly, 1125 at 0F. Most batteries I looked at may have been rated as high as 1125 at 32F, but would drop off big time at 0F- 950 maybe. Show me a Diehard or Intersate in group 31 rated that high at -0F-zero degreesF. Paid $81. I love it! Barely touch the key and zoom zoom. Bill

The most important thing to ask the parts man is at what temperature is their advertized CCA. Is it 32F or 0F? It may sound good 1025 at 32F, may be only 925 at 0F, which may take some cranking and no zoom zoom. . ?

You gatta love 'em! Try this; pick up a Diehard, then,,,,,,,pick up a Deka of the same group/cca. Talk about difference. Guess East Penn must add a few more plates to theirs. My Deka 1231PMF costs me 77. 01. Put in a Deka 6v in my old Two-Cylinder, and it cranked it over! Supposed to have two:eek:

I just talked to a man at the Deka regional warehouse in North Little Rock, AR. I was looking for retail sales outlets for these. He said that Carquest and O'Reilly autoparts stores both sell Deka batteries under private labels. He said that there is only one level of quality, so don't worry about them being any different from a Deka-labeled product. Deka is also the original equipment battery for Freightliner and Western Star trucks. He recommended the 1231PMF as the best model for us and told me about a manufacturing detail that other makers don't do. Deka (East Penn) puts a layer of epoxy glue in the bottom of the battery. The plates are then anchored in this glue. Most manufacturers restrain the plates from above only. I think that I will be buying one of these when I need a battery.
