i had the high idle enabled on my truck and have a few questions about it. when it ramps up the idle or does the three cyl. shut down, can you just tap the gas for it to return to normal operations or do you wait till it returns it self, will it return it self if left long enough???? thanks a bunch

Could be both. From reading others' posts, the actual temp that it turns on at varies. Mine works at around 29^, unless the sun shines on the hood, then it won't work. If your truck is plugged in, it won't work. The feature needs to be set in the computer, and then activated, a two step procedure. There are many posts on this.

I would go to the dealer and have them check it. I believe someone had a problem with a battery temp sensor that caused it to not work until it was very cold out.

I can tell you that mine will not activate if my truck has not set for quite a while. Last night it went down to around 20 or so here. But, I didn't come home until around 11:00. I believe that the truck held just enough heat over night to keep it from activating. A few weeks ago it did activate when it was around 23 or 24, but the truck had sat over 18 hours without being run.

It also may be possible that the ecm flash was not activated. Check out this link for more information.

For mine to work, it needs to be colder than ~20F. For the 3 cylinder shut down to work, it needs to be at least ~10F or colder. Most of the time it takes somewheres between 30 seconds and a minute to ramp up. As stated above, it wont work if you have it plugged in, or in a (somewhat warm) garage.

EGTs climb to 225-250 high idle is on. When the 3 cylinders shut down, EGTs will jump to 550 or so.

Usually I start it, let it run for a little, drive down to the coffe shop (6 blocks), and it will do its "thing". When I come out 15 or 20 min. later, its all warm and toasty in the cab.

Most of the newer 2nd gens have the software already in the ecm, and DO NOT need to be reflashed. It just needs to be "enabled" with the DRBIII.
