I'm going next week to have the Stealer try the cold Idle procedure again. They did it a year ago and it never worked and has been cold enough for it to kick in several time since then. IN reading about the "reflash" i think that they made the common mistake and did not go back in with the DRB and enable the option. Is this all they will have to do or will they have to do the whole thing over again? Should I just tell them to hook up the handheld tool and enable it? I will take a copy of the TSB with me, but I did that the first time too. I am also going to a different dealer now as I actually found a pretty good one that is receptive to our "ways" in regards to our trucks. The dealer has also hosted TDR functions in the past.

My second question is: I am also getting a remote starter in the next couple of weeks. Does anyone have the high idle reflash and a remote starter? Do they work well together or is there problems. I would love to start my truck as I park my work car, change my clothes and leave 10 minutes later in a ready to go truck thats been running at the high idle.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

come on guys there has to be someone out there with the answer!

I know that I am not the Lewis and Clark of this concept, am I. If I am that is pretty scary! If there is noone with this set up, then is there anyone that thinks there would be a problem. For those who have remote starts is there a cut out if engine RPM gets to high? ANY info on this would be helpful.

Thanks

J,

Whoa... ... ... settle down there Beavis... ... ... . LOL

Yes, I have the 3 cylinder idle enabled and a remote starter... ... .

They work SWEET together. I have a black 3500 and it will high idle and go to 3 cylinders in the morning... ... ... but, when I go to leave work it doesn't usually high idle. I think the fact that the truck is black and absorbing heat during the day that the battery temp sensor is saying +32F. I work usually 12 hrs a day.

In closing, tell Lewis and Clarke to keep their Bowie's in their sheaths... ... . I've been there and done that!!!!!!!LOL

Feel free to PM with any other ?'s

They should only have to go in a enable the 3 cylinder idle. From what I have been told by star all 01 have the programming in the ECM it just has to be enabled.

Has anyone tried getting a few resistors to put in place of the temp sensors to verifiy operation of the 3 cylinder idle without having it cold enough to come on? This way you can make sure it works before leaving the dealer.

Thanks Eric and Kaffine for your replies. Sorry I was all torqued up, thought that I had stumped the membership or I smelled or something LOL. Thanks again for the info.

dealer

Pinckney Dodge in Picnkney is pretty receptive. They never blinked when I rolled back in ( bought the truck there) for trans problems and had a Scotty II, boost/pyro and FP gauages hooked up. Another dealer threatened to cancell my Warranty because of all the "high performance and turbo mods" I had ( nothing other that the aforementioned and one of those insulated turbo/manifold blankets from Geno's).

Obviously I wouldnt roll in there with a box hooked up or anything major, but they seem to know what they area doing and talking about when it comes to warranty. I think that they would be pretty cool with just about anything that wasnt a "slap" in their face (wire prick at the VP). Plus they were able to fix my trans that, including other Stealers, hadnt heard about the problem before. Pickney got it back on the road in a day, after the parts arrived, and all under warranty. Everyone is pretty easygoing there too, and never got an attitude from anyone, even when I was "helping" to diagnose the problems with the trans. This may be the norm for most dealers but not the several that I have gone too. Most are retarded ( had one screw up an oil change at a 5 star dealer) so I am happy with Pickney (until they give me a reason not to be i guess).

Disclaimer: I am in NO way affilliated with this or any dealership or auto company! Just my perception of the dealership.

PS BUt who knows, If I when in with a tossed Turbo and a Scotty II that may tell me to go pack sand!

I don't know about the high idle/3 cylinder thing but I have a remote start in my truck.

It has been cold here for quite some time. Usually 10 overnight.

I have the truck plugged in and I remote start it in the morning and let it idle for about 10 minutes. I live about 2 miles from the freeway onramp so I like to have some heat in it before I hit the freeway.

I don't think idling for 10 minutes could be bad, I'm sure it is better than getting on the freeway and doing 80 with an ice cold motor and trans.
