Truck never did it until after 12,000 miles. The first time you start it each day it will have white smoke until you get moving. Stinks like hell but not oil smell. Some times it cranks alittle longer than usual. Started about the same time as I started using fuel additive to stop the ticking and clean the injectors. Used several different types of cleaners and have ran it without, still smokes on the first start. Truck runs great, mpg running in the 20's hand calculated without load and 12 mpg pulling 15,000 lbs. Not using any oil or any other problems.

I've seen other posts with this problem and know most of us are having it. I see TSB 18-041-05 is suppossed to clear this up and increase mileage. Have any of you got the flash and did it help? Did you have any other problems after the flash? I'm from the old school: "If it ain't causing a problem, don't bother it. "

Since it started it after 12k I would blame it on a leakback in the return line that allows air in the system.

That qould explain the longer crank time and the temp white smoke after sitting a spell.

Actually white/blue smoke when the engine is cold is normal.

Not necessarily on the new CR motors. Another possibility is that you have an injector starting to go bad, and its leaking fuel into the cylinder. If it starts idling rough until it warms up, thats when its definitly time to go get it fixed. Or, since its not too bad yet, take it in and let the dealer diagnose it. Then you can take it home while they order whatever parts you'll need.
