This is related to the thread by FPoitra started 11/11, but somewhat different so will start a new one.

Assume:

1. Ambient temperature above 32 degrees; therefore the cold weather automatic fast idle feature will not work.

2. Have a Jacobs exhaust brake on the truck; we are told this will aid in cold warm up. The engine must be at idle for the brake to work, so assume even if it is cold that the brake will turn off if you idle the engine up to 1,000rpm or so.

3. You want the engine to warm up some since you have a heavy load. (If not loaded, I'd let it run a bit and drive off)

Which is better for the truck, normal idle with the exhaust brake on or a fast idle at 1,000rpm (exhaust brake will turn off)?

If you idle up to 1000 with your foot, the exhaust brake will disengage. If you allow the electronic cold idle to idle the engine up, then the exhaust brake remains activated. It definitely warms up much faster with the exhaust brake activated.

Brrrrrrrrrrr.

We didn't know that, and will try this tomorrow morning. We have been using a scraper/brush against the accellerator pedal adjusted by the electric seat. This will probably save fuel.

Thank you for the tip!
