Need some advice.Cold weather fronts.I have a 2017 3500 .Weather around Boise changes all the time in the winter. Was wondering what temp. range I should use my cold weather front ?I don't know if I should leave it on all winter.Temps. usually stays any where form 40 degrees to -20.In Idaho you have to have a front and rear license plate so it's a hassle to have to take it off and put back on all the time. This week lows in the teens and highs in the low to mid 30s..Or should I play it by my truck temps ?

I use a winterfront all winter. I’m digging it out now. I don’t know the 4 gens at all, but I see Geno’s has a quick release pin kit for the grille. Would that help the install on a 4gen?

When you put the winter front on, slip the bottom flap between the bumper and grille. Then it will hang down behind the bumper.

Thanks for the replys.I'll put it on and leave it on until Spring or when temps gets close to 50 F..Like they say read the instructions.

Absolutely yes! I always remove my grill first when putting the winterfront on. It makes life sooooooo much easier. I also recommend placing the lower flap behind the front bumper when installing as I've found the flap likes to hold road grime/salt and it deteriorates the chrome on the bumpers.

I’ll have to have you come over and put mine on with the grill off the truck. I’ll have popcorn and beer on hand for the show. It’s darn near a two man job when it’s on the truck. We tried once with it off the truck and it was a no go.

OEM WF IMO are not necessary until -0F Temps, and out right worthless at temps above 30F ,damaging at Temps above 40F on OEM setups, Maybe on deleted Engine W/O EGR.

Beside its ugly, looks like cheap China duck tape.

I hate putting them on with the grill installed. Getting them off is even worse! Each his own I suppose.
Another reason to keep my third gen truck. My winter front will go on the truck Dec 1 and I take the winter front off around March when the temps stay above 30F. I just close off one or two of the flaps when the temps get around 0F. Truck warms up real nice and stays warm when temps are around 0F. Here is a pic of my winter front. As you can see it is under the grill. the front takes all of 15 mins to install.

This is My 2003 ,The inserts are the way to go on NONE EGR motors, I drilled the holes, and you can remove the bottoms 2 and run all winter long.

I saw those inserts down south and over in Canada and really liked the looks. They are clean and just snap in place. Unfortunately, they don't work so well when it's really cold. It's tough to beat the ugly old winter front due to the fact that it blocks more air entry locations on the cooling system.

The second and third gen trucks that have the cover behind the grill is way to go......unfortunately, the 4th gens are stuck on the outside.

My geno’s Winterfront is great. Made well fits well and has 2 nice roll up windows. I just leave the bottom one rolled up. Rarely gets below zero and I like the quicker heat.

ESweig,

I live in Idaho, too. This is my first winter with my (new to me) '15 3500, which I purchased early last spring. While the previous owner included the winter front, I have not put it on. Instead, I thought I'd try what I used for the 17 years that I owned my '98 2500: a roughly 2 foot by 2 foot piece of cardboard with an 8 inch hole cut in the center to supply air to the fan clutch; the cardboard is slipped down just ahead of the radiator. On my '98 it was between the radiator and the intercooler. On this truck it still blocks most of the air going through the radiator but lets it flow over the other heat exchangers and the intercooler. I'll leave it there until temps start getting up around 50 degrees regularly. It only takes a minute to pull that "heavy duty" plastic cooling cowl back (I have a variation of the Geno's quick release pins for that and the grill) and slip the cardboard in or out. And it's cheap and easy to modify and you don't see it. Surprisingly it lasts several seasons, and it's just a piece of cardboard.

Oh, and I haven't had a license plate on the front of my truck for 10 years and I've had 1 ticket for it. (Knock on wood!)

Don't come to IL that is one way for a very fast ticket. My son's mother in-law just purchase a new BMW car. The BMW's do not come with a front plate license mounting (at least on her car) bracket. With in a week she had a warning ticket from the local police. They gave her a week to get the plate mounted on the front bumper or she would be subject to another ticket.
