I have an 2002 6-speed. I had to hand the dealer the TSB and argue with them that such a thing existed. They gave me a "you don't know crap" look when I told them about the 3 cylinder high idle. It was like I was their first informed diesel customer. Since, they have given me respect since they've learned the hard way a couple times that I can spot their b. s.
Woah, who put me up on that soapbox...
Anyway, 6 speed, works great, really warms the engine up fast. Keep in mind that the 98. 5 to 02 idle program is not as intelligent as the 03 and up. The 03 and newer models base fast idle on ambient air temperature, meaning that the 3rd gen trucks will idle back up even when at full temp after being parked for enough time in air temps cold enough. As for the 2nd gen 24 valve engines, the high idle program is based on intake manifold temp. Once the engine is at full temp, no matter how long you park it and let it idle, it will not return to fast idle on its own. The 2nd gen fast idle program only starts when the intake manifold temp is below a set temperature.
And of course, there are many other factors that have to weigh in before a CTD initiates its high idle program, like zero wheel speed, service brakes not pressed... blah blah blah.
