Given where I live.....and never see cold weather, I am completely uninformed..... Finally, we had a cold morning, down to the low 40's (don't laugh) Truck fired right up and didn't even notice if the grid heaters went off, there was no wait to start delay(keyless ignition). A minute down the road, the evic showed the little heater symbol lower left corner( sorry, crappy picture) and it stayed on for my 15 minute ride to work. Truck was up to temperature.....This seems wrong, I assume the heater is for start up only?

I believe that maybe the indicator for the DEF heater but it is only a guess.

That may be......I knew the def tank had a heater but don't know if it shows a gauge/light when it is on. It was only around 45 degrees, didn't think that is cold enough for a heater to run.....

Mine only stays on for 6-9 seconds when it is cold and then off. That little guage actually keeps a count down time until the heaters kick off. It has never stayed there for 15 minutes and my truck has seen many sub zero starts last year.

Thanks for the info......that makes sense. I'm surprised that at down in the 40 degree area, the grid heaters aren't on in the first place when I start it, let alone be on that long.......more problems....GRRRR...

My grid heater/start delay doesn't come on unless I'm below 40 degrees (only seen it once when it was about 25 out last week). Same thing goes for all the heated seats stuff when I remote start. None of it turns on unless it is below 40 outside.

I've never seen the additional heater icon/notifier though. I'll look for it when temps start dropping later this week again.

I'm not sure about the reporting of internal fuel leaks on this newer 6.7 liter but my old 5.9 chimed several times AND turned the wait to start light on when rail pressure cannot be maintained to the computers liking. You may want to proceed in digging a little deeper into this one. I'd find out for sure, maybe Sag will chime in.

hard to see but it looks like the icon for the intake heaters. Mine acts this way: push the ignition button to run, and it sits there for 2-8 seconds depending on how cold it is, it goes off, then the truck fires up. The icon goes off before it starts and stays off. I have never seen it come on while driving, ever. I have also never seen anything in the manuals indicating that there is an icon for when the def heater is on. Maybe you need a software update or have an issue? better get it checked out.

A little colder this morning, about 40 degrees or so the truck said. Lo and behold, I got the wait to start light icon for about ten seconds and everything went as it should:) With all the voodoo electronics on these trucks, everyday is an adventure..........I miss the simplicity and uncomplicated ways of my 2001 but enjoy the heck out of driving my 2014.

I think it works this way. I have keyless start by the way. If its cold enough, I get, in sequence after pushing the start button, words stating the truck is preheating and will start when preheat is complete with the wait to start curly cue icon. If wait to start lasts long enough that the EVIC message disappers, then I see the timer "icon" in the lower left display as you have it your first picture. If the preheat times out before this message disapears the truck starts and I never see the timer icon at all. There is no mention or explanation of the timer icon in my 2013 owners manual or diesel supplement. Ken Irwin

This is also my understanding on how it's supposed to work......but never see it because of our weather......

Low 40's.........

Did you have to dress in layers???:D

My Mother was *****in' because it was 58 in Mesa Monday morning, she didn't get much sympathy from me sitting in a foot of snow with the generator running.....

Mike.

Oh Mike, your just having the time of your life! And you don't have any air conditioning bills left over from the summer you have to pay!! Best of both worlds! LOL Ken Irwin

Actually not that bad with the generator, lived quite high on the hog for about 5 gallons of gas per day.

Beats the alternative (candles and huddling around the wood stove while the ice cream melts in the chest freezer)......

Wife has just informed me that the power came back on about 3.30pm. That is a full day earlier than I anticipated. Now if this snow will just melt and give the ground a chance to freeze....

Like I said your having the time of your life! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! LOL Ken Irwin

Anyways, I don't think the light should have stayed on during your drive that day if it does indeed designate grid heater operation.

If I saw it happen again I would be asking some questions. The third gens will even kill the grid heater cycle above a certain speed if you take off quickly in the cold.

I demand the name of this thread be changed...or start lying about the ambient temps to reflect the title a little more accurately :-laf:-laf

I'm at exactly 40 degrees this morning. Literally one more degree colder and the truck would have turned on the heated seats and steering wheel when I remote started it. I wish I could bump that up to about 45 degrees for the cut on point.
