If both trucks have this problem I'd say your fuel has gelled from the cold. Get them into a heated shop if possible and let them warm up.

Try a search on here, I think some fuel aditives will un-gell the fuel in the tank. I'm not sure what to do about the fuel in the filters, lines and pumps, maybe a heat lamp under the hood.

I agree with the last post. My first guess would be the fuel has gelled. How cold is it there? My second guess would be bad fuel. Have both of you fueled at the same place at close to the same time? Definetly get soem additive and into a warm shop. Let us knwo what happens. Bill

changed fuel filter no gel, added the 911 re-liquifier bled the fuel system know it is getting fuel cranking over and still not firing!!! Help!!!

Could be the fuel solenoid valve, have you actually cracked an injector line to see of you have flow past the injector pump?

You said that truck is getting Fuel and cranks and still not firing Then it must not be getting Air . Check the air intake ,filter hose from box all the way to eng and air horn check clamps and look for any holes in air hose . Is other truck still down . Use the block heater for Two hours . Must be cold in Vermont now . Use the 911 and fill the filter with it too . Let the 911 work from the tank and filter for at least one hour with heater plugged in before start attempt . Ron In Louisville KY LOL

:D :D :D

gelled

Not all of the fuel will gell at once. You will get some liquid. Kind of like frozen orange juice concentrate. There will be some partial liquids there, but not enough to suck through the fuel line and run through filter. Best to plug in truck. Throw a blanket or something over the motor or block the grille for best heating effect while plugged in. Make sure to remove it before starting!!!

Check your batteries

I had this happen to me one night after I had just bought my truck (2 years used - new for me). It had only got down to around 11 degrees that night and should not have been a problem.

1. I plugged it in for 2 hours - still no start.

2. Checked for gelled fuel by operating water bleeder in the bottom of the fuel filter - good fuel, still no start.

3. Still suspecting gelled fuel, I stuck my camp stove under the hood compartment with a tarp over the hood for another hour while by buddie accross the street drove back and forth with his Ford - still no start.

4. Tested the BATTERIES - lo and behold one was dead. Used a charger with Quick Start to jump it and drove to town for a new battery.

I was so set on doubting the Fuel that I overlooked the Electrical. Truck didn't have enough crank to fire up.

My guess is the Lift/Transfer Pump

I had this happen to 2 of our trucks, both 1st gens. On both of them the lift pump was shot. Push the primer lever on the lift pump and see if there's any pressure there, if not it's broken. If so it could still be bad, but maybe not. What happens is when it's warm the injector pump can suck the fuel past the dead lift pump, but when it gets cold and the fuel is thicker the injector pump can't draw it past the dead pump. Lift pump's aren't that spendy from cummins and if your truck has a lot of miles it'd be worth it to put a new one on anyways (cheap insurance). My bet would be on the lift pump. And the 6. 2..... well they're always hard to start. The best way I've found to start them is to Let the glow plugs cycle and hold her to the rugs while cranking it over :).

all set! I figured it out:) Kind of. I callewd the Diesel Doctor located bby me. they said to crack open one of the injectores tpo see if it was getting fuel that far and it wasn't so I cracked the rest of them and bled from the pump out. all good!!!!:--) I gues what had happened was the fuel filter was dirty(realy dirty10th month oops) and the high sulpher was to thick to get enough sucked through all the crap to keep the cummins hummin!so after it burned all the fuel from after the filter it puttered out and died which explaines the running for 30 seconds. so I guess it wasn't getting fuel after all! Thank you all very much.
