Colorado Hunting

How about some tips for hunting Colorado. My number one question is how in the heck do you get a liscense? I've heard about the draw but how/where do you enter for it. Being a Texan I've never had to draw to get a big game liscense. Do you have to designate an area? Thanks

BTW- mule deer and elk are what I'll be hunting.

there is a drawing in colorado and there are over the counter permits as well. I don ot know if colorado gives preference points or not. Colorado Fish and Game would be a great start. I have friends that go every year.

Your first stop should be a local office of the Colorado Division of Wildlife. They can point out the draw areas and areas you can buy liscense over the counter.



All deer permits are draw, at least for non-locals like me. If you apply for a draw, money and completed permit with the season, type hunt, (bow, black powder, modern gun) and unit number must be post marked usually the first couple days of April.



It can be a confusing process, but in the end it's worth it.

The regulations booklets for this year should be out around the last week of February. All of your questions will be answered in the booklet. The website also has all the information.

thanks for all the info. It sure is a lot more involved in then just picking a liscense up at Wally World like in TX! luckily being military based here, i can get a resident liscense, saves a ton of money.
