Just curious if anyone has ever done the above and how they did it? My truck sits a lot, (sadly) yet I like to keep everything plugged in yet without all the cords or a box...

Thanks in advance!

Zero Start makes a combo cord for big trucks that have both coolant frost plug heaters and oil pan heaters. Perhaps that could be modified to suit you needs.

Open this link, it may take a few minutes depending on your download speed. Then go to Page 77. You will see Y cords. Illustrations are below on that same page.

I believe you would want the paralell set up.

I am assuming that you want one leg for a block heater, the cord end would fit the block heater that is on your truck right now.

How about a pigtail? You should be able to find a nice heavy duty unit at a lowes or home depot or something similar. They can come with a gfi as well if your outlet doesnt have one.

There is a unit that has 3 female plugs at one end of the 3 foot cord and a single male three prong on the other end. The male end goes into a recepticle that looks just like a 7 wire trailer recepticle with a mounting bracket that is mounted in a opening of your front bumper. It has a spring loaded flip up door and available in chrome or black. Only takes one cord to the truck and gives you three outlets. Looks good, factory look on the truck when not in use. Will look for brand name off of mine tomorrow.

I'm not sure why you would run the block heater all the time. Better battery minders/chargers come with a connector on the 12V side and you can buy extra cables and permanently wire them in. Like this Noco:

Mwilson,

Whew you weren't kidding! That took a bit to download. Problem is getting to page 77 got me thinking on many things... My family wonders why I wander so slowly through hardware stores or others similar places. I look for answers to questions I haven't thought of yet. That is a reference book there! Thanks!

D4L, That is the current thought or the quickest solution to the existing problem. I have some really good wire that came off a oil rig in the Gulf that I might be able to cobble into something as you describe.

RH, let me know if you find that Brand name!

RD, I like that. I should add, I keep her plugged in when temps are below 30 degrees. I like the heat soak, (although minimal as it may be) for that thick oil. Just my own little quirk I guess?

Just add a 30 degree F plug to the block heater, look in a farm store, they sell them. They only close and allow current through when it's 30 degrees or below, and then just leave it plugged in all of the time. Battery topped off, block heater on when temps drop, perfect.

Get yourself a Kussmaul auto eject. Run it to a weatherproof outlet box you mount under the hood somewhere. Then plug your block heater and charger into the two plugs.

Firefighter have you done so?

I am a FF/PM just outside of Chicago and oftentimes when walking by the eng. 's & trk's, I had thought about using an auto eject... .

I haven't installed mine yet. I found my Super Auto Eject on ebay a few months back. We've put them on a couple of rigs at the dept I work for. Works great for charging equipment radios etc and keeping the block warm.

... . and just a suggestion on your Y cord... . Why not use a heavy 15amp timer on the wall outlet? I usually set mine for about 2 hours before I go start my truck, so that's adequate time to heat the water, and perhaps charge the battery, too? How much electricity would that save you on your bill over the period of how many years you're keeping your truck? A week long digital timer is available, which is settable for each day of the week... ...

I haven't. I actually have gotten a new rig since then. Found the auto eject a few days ago. Still wanting to use it. Thought about putting it in the front fender like I've seen on several emergency vehicles with the same rigs.
