Thanks, TDR Staff

Know where else the 98.5-02 lift pumps reside?

I'm thinking SCAM!!! You've seen these pics...

So I took a friend's 379 over to get inspected at the Pete house in Buda, TX... They told me right off the bat that they will not inspect it if it has straight pipes, that it's some new law here or some BS here in Texas... Have any of y'all heard of this??? I need to get this truck inspected by the weekend. What's next, chicken lights will fail you too??? I guess I need to find somewhere that is a little more lax on their inspections...

Chicken lights are illegal in Virginia if they are too bright...

Try a generic truckstop, not an actual dealer. Speedco, TA, whatever you've got there. Usually they just zip you right through. Gotta be some near Austin, no?

Chris, annual inspection? If so, just go to the nearest truck stop and get the form and sticker and find a independent mechanic to do it, or do it yourself. I do the silver truck myself. You coming out this way next week?

Inspections

I just want to say that the inspector is supposed to be certified to do annual inspections. I know that you'll do what you need to, but in all reality it is good to have someone else go over it good once in a while.

your inspector was full of it... not worth arguing with, but FYI, this is from the TX DOT website...

20. 15 Exhaust System. Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with muffler in good working order and in constant operation.

Muffler defined: Muffler is a device consisting of a series of chambers or baffle plates or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and/or turbine wheels for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from a diesel engine, both of which are effective in reducing noise.

read your FMCSA rulebook under vehicle regs/part 325 for noise emission standards pertaining to commercial vehicles.

the FMCSA rules under section 325 have been around since 1975!!!!! with straight miter cut stacks, I seriously doubt he's above the db levels outlined in there, but that's a moot point... they didn't have a db meter in hand, they were performing a TX DOT inspection... a turbo is a suitable muffler on a diesel in TX

Forrest Neaing is right. In TX a diesel with a turbo does not need a muffler, the turbo counts as a muffler. That goes for our little diesels too I went rounds getting my dodge inspected. I live in Hereford and there are probably 1000 bull haulers going through town every day and about 90% of those are straight piped. Just my . 02

Thanks for all the comments guys... We got it inspected and it's on the way to Vegas right now, with 3 cases of big red sodas, and all my starched clothes... That way, I can fly lighter come next Sunday the 9th... Mark--- I am headed out your way, and will be there from sunday the 9th, till the following Monday (8 days worth)... I will call you sometime this weekend!! Looking forward to seeing ya!!

Glad to hear you got it done and passed.

Belive it or not a turbo according to MI DNr is also considered a spark arresting device.
