Lot of physical and electronic differences because of completely different injection systems between the two. You would have to either make it like a '98. 5-2002 engine by getting a special timing case and converting it to VP44 and installing a VP44 pump replacing the injectors to VP style and getting special adapter crossover tubes. But then I'm not sure about some of the electronics like tach sensor to tell the ECM engine RPM and so forth.

The other approach is make your 2nd Gen truck common-rail ready which would involve adapting sensors, wiring and setting up a common rail ECM. Bob Wagner could probably assist with that piece of the puzzle.

If you do a search for posts by member RRamsey you will find 4-5 threads he started about swapping a common rail into a 12-valve truck which turned out good. Unfortunately he's not a member here anymore.
