I finally got the blue chip pump cover on and hooked up the pump wire on my Comp. this weekend, everything working great, this morning coming to work I found a Power Stroke to do a fly by on, Put comp on 5x5 dropped the hammer on baby, took care of power stroke in short order, looked down and the little engine was lit up on the dash, got to work checked codes, P1693 was showing, Heres the question, will unhooking the batteries clear the code and I thought with the comp no codes would show up. Thanks for any input.

Brett

Brett,

I had a code show up in mine when I did the Comp install, I forgot to tighten 1 boost hose clamp  I just unhooked both batteries for about 2 hours and the code was gone, and no codes since then.

Good luck!

Jim

Hey Brett

How was the Blue cover to put on? What all did you have to take off to do the job? How long does it take? Mine should be here tomorrow, can't wait to see the difference with the wire on. . Did you run your without the wire first.

I took alook under the hood and noticed a Black cover and cast Iron deal right directly above it. does all that have to come off?

Thank in advance

Rod

I unhooked the batteries for about an hour, the little engine light is gone but the code is still there, do they need to be un-hooked longer ? I have had the comp on the truck for about 2 months with no problems.

cummins-man- the cover wasnt too bad, took about 20-30 minutes, my cover had regular #25 torx screws, when tightening the pointed screw I had my test light handy and tightened a little at a time checking for contact.

Thanks

Brett

dont worry about the 1693 code. it is simply a companion code that is set in the pcm for various reasons. It leads nowhere when diagnosing anything. If you know any body with a scanner, they can clear it. When i scanned my truck last time, the snap on scanner said that the code would automatically clear after 40 engine warm up cycles. so unless you cant wait ,dont worry about it.

badinfluence

Did you notice a big difference in horse power increase when you hooked the pump wire up. I was told that its not that big of a difference. .

Can anyone answer that.

thanks

cummins-man,

I noticed a BIG difference when I hooked up the pump wire on my truck, I could then use levels 2-5. Man, 5X5 is AWSOME!!:D

Jim

Boy and I thought the truck ran good without the pump wire hooked up. .

Do you guys have injectors, or are you just running the comp?

What kind of exhaust temp do you receive with the wire hooked up?

One more question with kind of boost do you get?

Thanks again. .

cummins man, im not sure if this is much help but here goes. I have the powermax competition version, so it is a very hot box. I also have dd3's. With the pmax on level 6 (same as level 9 on standard pmax3) I would see high 1600 on pyro at the end of a quarter mile run. (never towed with pmax on, cant tell ya) Since i went to B1 turbo, cant get it over 1400 no matter how hard i driver her. I was seeing 45 psi with the stock hx35 turbo, but it was wasted air. Temps with my hx 35 just soared with the box set to nuclear. Now i get 50 psi with b1 If you want reall sweet power, go with the injector for daily driving and crank up the magic box for really laying it down. just my . 02

rubberneck-thanks for the info. , any idea's on why it set the code or that commen with the comp 5x5 ?

cummins-man- the wire does make a difference, I am still with stock injectors but planning on DD 3's, as far as boost I had 29 before the wire now I can get 32, EGT's never got over 1000 before the wire, now depending on the setting I can hit 1300 in short order, I am trying to go easy since I still have the stock clutch. But the temptation to drop the hammer on it is hard to resist. And 5x5 will put out the prettiest black smoke trail :) you have ever seen.

Brett

Thanks Badinfluence

So what you are telling me if you drive in 5x5 you will always be up at 1300 +... or is that dropping the hammer in all gears and drag racing it. What good would it be if you hook the wire up and can't use the power and fun if the temps are always high?

I have a 02 6th speed with stock injectors, and stock clutch. .

I think the temptation would always want to be in 5x5. .

cummins man, if you have the 6 speed, i cant stress enough how much you will like injectors (i have a 6 also). The ETH motor does not respond quite as well to the boxes as the ETC motor (auto and 5 speeds). However injectors are awesome. The other thing, is hp for hp, the injectors will run cooler. the problem with the boxes is that they simply hold the pump solenoid open longer in the injection cycle. (this is how they add more fuel). this results in higher egts as you really crank the boxes up. Injectors add fuel in a larger volume and therefore earlier in the injection cycle. if you want power all the time go injectors.

oh yeah, forgot to add, comp box will probably nuke the stock clutch if you get crazy, add injectors, you better just order a clutch at the same time.

bad influence, as far as the code, no way to really tell as far as i know if it was in fact the comp that set the 1693 code. thats the problem with that code, it means basically nothing. I have seen other codes with some boxes when i had a bad boost module, the truck would defuel and set a 0234 code in the ecm. I also had a bad box that caused a miss and set some other codes indicated as such in the ecm, but the 1693 seems to pop up sometimes. I have also set the 1693 when using my high idler.

cummins-man, the higher egts are when I stand on it, and hold it there, 5X5 (normal) cruising speed I am seeing normal egt's. I am still playing with my settings and how much smoke and power each one makes.

Brett

I run my truck with the box off and DDII's. It seems to run fine, but turn on that box and I can hit 1500*+ on the EGT guage. I only hold it there for a couple of seconds and I'm going easily 100+ mph:D . Driving around in 5=5 isn't needed in my opinion. 3=5 is plenty fast and egt's with the HY turbo is controlable. The only time I get in the 1500* range is WOT on 5=5. Just wait till I get the HX40... ... ... ... ... ...

Bad influence,

The code will clear itself. It took about two days for mine to clear

and I havent seen one since... ... . Greg

trouble light!!

Brett. .

I did the same as you on the install. . used a trouble light, tightend down the screws 'till the light came on... 2K miles later I noticed a stumble on occasion, and low power. What happened was the screw/wire, whatever had settled in and was not always making contact with the pump wire. . another 1/2 turn and all is well. .

There was a post a while back about a member that tightened his too tight and fryed his pump. . the screw was thru the wire and grounding out on the metal.

You guys that don't have your pump wire hooked up:confused: , why would you buy a comp??? Hook up the stupid wire and have some real fun:--) :D :D

Colin

When we changed my lift pump we unhooked the ground to the comp box and forgot to put the ground back on. This was setting off the codes and after about 15 min. of scratching our heads we figured it out.

Colin, thats exactly what was wrong. I didnt have the screw in far enough, I was trying to use caution due to the thread you refered to about it being too tight. Now it works like it should. Thanks for the responses, now I just need those DD3's and a SouthBend Clutch. :D
