hey guys I want to take a picture of my truck with smoke coming out of the stacks. I've heard of a trick with the map sensor or something that I could then just goose the thottle and get smoke. How is this done and does it hurt anything... throw codes etc... Just want to get a nice photo. :D

Just unplug your map sensor & it'll smoke. I do it from time to time, never got a code, except on the highway at wot for too long.

If you unplug the map and still have the Comp plugged in the computer will see full boost signal even at idle (This is what I see when I have my scantool plugged in) so when u blip the throttle it will provide more fuel since the computer "thinks" you are already providing enough air. I do see a code when done like this. It reads "boost signal too high too long"

You want to unplug the plug that goes into the map on the motor. If you unplug the other one, which goes to the ecm, you will get a code. If you unplug the one that goes to the box, you shouldn't get a code. It will roll good smoke without moving like this.

You are ok with the hijack! Yea I know him his name is Miles Barringer I believe. Sorry to hear about the location. I know the last owner that sold it due to the same reason.

Not Miles, I whent to school with Miles this is another guy from South Rowan I think, Besides Miles has a-qcLb and he is definitly not lifted like me he is leveled

I tried unplugging my MAP today right at the sensor and got different results. With the Comp box turned on, I got some rather abrupt timing changes and it would miss some when I rolled into the pedal. I turned the Comp box off and it drove normal. Oddly, I couldn't get any more smoke to roll with the box on or off with the MAP unplugged. Does something sound wrong here? As far as I know my truck runs like always. The only difference I may have over other trucks is I have a Dr. Performance reflashed ECM from way back in 2000.

Thanks,

Dan

I don't have the pump wire tapped. The Comp box is working the same as it has for the last five years. Everything seems to be running just fine. I am just curious why the MAP sensor trick didn't work for me.

Has anyone else tried unplugging the MAP and gotten similar results?

Thanks,

Dan

cause without being tapped you get no additional fuel

The trick = map sees full boost all the time so you get 100% fuel of whatever level your in instantly instead of it slowly ramping up with boost.

This is not true. When I turn the box on, the power and smoke levels dramatically increase. And the response and off boost smoke increase with each sub level. You still get roughly 60hp without the wire tapped.

I agree with your second statement. The fact that it doesn't work on my truck is what I am trying to figure out. The boost fooler is obviously working, because I run 55psi and it doesn't defuel. And I would venture to say the MAP is working, at least somewhat, because when I unplugged it, I had very obvious results.

Other than this "trick" not working, my truck runs great and everything appears to be fine.
