OK, hopefully that title was descriptive enough. I have an Edge Comp with FBD 150 injectors. When I stack a Smarty and go WOT the truck starts missing around 2200 rpm & boost hangs at about 32 psi. If I leave my foot on the floor it will clear up around 2700 rpm & run on out. When I do this I get a CEL & P0251, P0632, P01693 codes. I know the 1693 & 0632 codes are inherent to the Smarty, but the P0251 code seems doesn't make sense. Of all the posts I read about P0251 trucks either just died, or would not start. Mine only throws this code with the Smarty, and only when it misses. Question is, what could the root cause be of the miss & P0251 code? The IP is 2 years old & was purchased from Diesel Performance Parts in Nashville.

Smarty on 8. I have not tried other even levels. It will miss when the Comp is turned to 3x5 or above. Surely the pump is not running out of fuel?

Time for another VP then. Are you sure you got the code 0632, I have searched high and low and it doesn't exist in the code lists I can find.

OK, so the pump is only taxed with the Smarty? Tried it again tonight, and it only misses with the Comp above level 3 with the smarty on 8.

So with comp on 5x5 and no smarty it is fine, and as soon as you add the smarty it misses above 3x5??? Just trying to clarify...

Yes, that is correct. With the Comp only I can run it on 5x5 with no issues. Add the Smarty, and it will miss with the comp set above 3x5.

I have some new info to add to the thread. With the comp on 4x5 or higher the miss returns between 2200 & 2500 rpm. The Smarty just makes it worse and sets the codes. If I turn the comp off it will not do it. It will miss in the same rpm range free revving with the comp on, with the smarty on, and with both of them on. It will not miss with the Smarty only. Also, I need to correct the codes above. P0251, P0602, P1693. Any ideas?

You kind of contradicted yourself in your last post.

If I understand what you are trying to say, the problem now seems to be isolated to the Comp.

Verify that you have a good power connection to your comp, and whatever means you are using to tap the VP (cover or wire tap) has a good solid connection.

It might be possible that your comp is failing.

The info on the P0602 indicates that the PCM is not programmed/missing programming. Whole 'nother list of possibilities there.

I wouldn't say contradicted. When the problem first appeared it was only when the Smarty was loaded and I was running the comp. It has since progressed to include the Comp regardless of whether the Smarty is loaded or not. Also, it only misses when the Comp is on 4 or higher. I will look into the power, ground, and wire taps for the Comp today.

The ring terminal for the ground connection for the Comp was practically broken in half. I repaired that and took it for a ride. The Comp is definitely working like it used to, but the miss is still there. With or without the Smarty I get the miss with the Comp on.

not too sure on the 2nd gen when i had my edge an smarty if i turned them both up "i could do one or the other but not both" it would pop and almost back fire then clean out. sense then i have changed the edge out for the tst and i can turn them both up as long as i turn the timimg off on both! from what i have found bigger injectors it adds injector timing then the duration from two boxes an add timing from one of them the cyl has lapped an the injector is still spraying causing a miss or pop.

That sounds like what I am experiencing. I have a couple of friends with similar setups, ad neither of them see this. One has an Adrenaline, Smarty, F1 200's, and a Phatshaft 62. The other has a TST PowerMax3 Comp, F1 150's, and a Phatshaft 62. Both are HO trucks, though.
