Will a second gen 95 engine from a 2wd auto truck fit a 1st gen manual 4wd truck. I guess the major obstacle is the bell housing clutch assembly. Also the electrical hookups for the engine shutoff and the AC etc. What year did Dodge start using the D80 rear end as I have access to the whole junk 2nd gen truck. Thanks

I would say yes after my 96 engine broke I got a 97 engine from a school bus with 80k on the engine and dropped it in. had to make a few changes like the vac. pump and the manifold and turbo.

What did you break?

The 2nd gen trucks used D70's & D80's depending on transmissions used.

D80 = manual

D70 = auto

the crank broke , on the web between number 6 rod and 6 main , it had 257k on it , bearing s had . 003 wear and the bore still had the hash marks . I got another crank just haven't put it back together yet . I have a 5 speed dump I think I'll put it in . the new engine has power like I only wish the old engine had . I can take the goose neck with my tractor and golf cart over Afton mountain and go as fast as I want . that's 17k not including the truck.

Yep, it will fit with minor things. Just use all the accessories and bell housing pieces from the 1st gen on the new motor.



The electrical for the shutoff should be easy. The only potential problem is clearance around the power brake booster. Lots of p-pump upgrades in 1st gens.

Thanks, I'll see what its gonna cost me for the truck. My old engine still runs like a top but I'm always looking for a little more performance but not at the expense of extra headaches. I just think it would be fun although not unique.
