I have been shopping for a compression tester for my lst gen, and it appears nobody makes an adapter for the small cummins diesel. Does anyone have one, and if so what is the make and part number for the part that goes in the head in place of the injector?

Snap On makes one and it is pricey. I think 90-100 Dollars. You will need a high reading gauge also as I understand the pressure is very high. The typical 150-200 will not work. There are tool outlets on the web that sell the complete unit I just do not have the links right now but I am sure if I do not get back with you someone will.

Sweet, I have a Harbor Freight in town, I might check to see if they have one in stock. What is the procedure after you thread in the fitting to check compression if you don't mind me hijacking:)?

Instructions I have seen so far say to just crank it at cranking speed, or start it and read at idle.

Someone help me here though, I know my engine has bigger diameter injectors than later ones, they drilled smaller holes to keep the heads from breaking. The Harbor freight one shows two 5. 9 Cummins adapters, can anyone tell me what size injectors I have in an 88 model 5. 9

what size are yours?

on edit: i just realised you were asking that. that should work just fine for ya. 24mm is the size of the retaining nut on our injectors.

24mm is the WRENCH SIZE of the retaining nut on mine. Just realized that too, no injector would be that size, wonder what they mean by that?
