Welding question

Need to get a compressor, prefer one that I can put in my trunk from time to time. What size, brand do y'all like?

Also, what do you guys use for porting/polishing tools?

For a compressor how much will you be using, what will you be using it for?

If you plan on porting and polishing work I HIGHLY recommend a good eletirc die gringer, along with a good set of carbide burr bits, and I use standard abrasive prodcuts for all my polishing.

Zach, I was planning to use the compressor to run the port/polish tools, for painting/texturing if practical, and for pressure testing my intercooler, cleaning/drying parts, etc.

I wouldnt get anything smaller than a 60gal tank and 5-8hp motor twin stage would be nice too.

But something that big you wouldnt beable to put in the bed of your truck.

Ryan,

Pick out your air tools first. Look at the consumption rating of the highest one and make sure your compressor choice will handle it. It is a real pain to have your tool slow down and you have to wait for the air compressor to build up pressure again.

My orbital sander uses almost as much air as my glass bead blasting unit, a real "air hog". The other tools don't use anywhere near as much, but may be a factor with smaller compressors. I had to size my compressor to handle the bead blasting, so everything else I have does not make the air compressor breath hard.

Check out your tools first and then pick an air compressor that can EASILY handle the draw.
