Anyone repair Mac problems?

WTH is "fooooz"?

Anyone here build their own computer? Anyone build a dual processor? I feel competent enough to build one, but want to make sure I get all the right stuff to do a dual processor. I went to upgrade my RAM, and the only kind that will work with mine will cost more than $500. This comp isn't worth it, so it's time to build the one I've been wanting to do for a while.

Thanks

I built my own, 2 80GB 7200rpm HD's set up in a Raid Array, 1 GB of 500mhz Platinum RAM, FX5900 Ultra video card w/250mb's and I used a 3Gig processor which was about the fastest at the time. I have not built a dual processor system as I have never needed one.

I've built two of them from scrounged up and ebay stuff. Started with Salvation Army boxes and went from there.

Be sure and wear one of those anti-static wrist bands so you don't toast anything. My experience is most of this stuff can take some abuse, i. e. more POed I get the more "mechanic minded" I get. :-laf tsk, tsk, remember "He that is slow to wrath is better than he that taketh a walled city" Proverbs somewhere.

I would advise against putting out the bucks for the top of the line stuff when a notch or two lower will do just fine. Lotsa RAM and good video card. Also keep the mindset that this computer stuff is obsolete tomorrow, so no big deal. Finally, remember moving to 64 bit platform is just around the corner, i. e. MS is finally dragging their butt around to converting all their junk software to the platform others have been ready to use for years. Sounds like a new hardware/software bonanza for somebody special -- ka ching! Yeah, I know the new 64 bit chips will run the old 32 software -- sure thing. ;) Do I sound cynical... ..... moi :p

$500 buck for RAM sure sounds high??? Good luck and let us know how it works out. A parting thought, when I built my boxes the prices of new boxes were better than a grand. But now boxes are so inexpensive and available on ebay, etc. it may not be worth your time and money.

I just built my new CAD system. Single P4 3. 2 ghz, 1 gig ram, 80 gig HDD, 256 meg nvidia, dvd rom/cd burner combo drive, dvd dual layer burner drive, XP Pro, 512 meg flash drive and a few other items at PCClub.com. I bought two 19" CRT's at the State surpluss warehouse for $15 ea. PC club had the best site IMO for picking and choosing each part without getting a bunch of junk I didn't want. That Dell refab site has some good deals if you're willing to take what they have. Sounds like you want to build one and I can't blame you.

You didn't state your intended usage. So check all the software you use. The are not very many programs that will use the second procressor. You could go in and tell the OS which processor to use for a given program. But for a program to use both. It has to be written for duals.

Thanks for the replies. I need to know what to look for when putting together dual processors. I know it takes a mobo that will support dual cpu's, but what else?

It is going to be motherboard specific. Memory, power supply, case, operating system. I think everything else will be common to most computers. Have you thought about going single processor/dual core instead.

Not sure what dual core means.
