Does anyone know of a cable and software we can buy to plug into or trucks? I would really like to be able to plug into the diagnostics port without buying a tuner. It would be very helpful to plug in and be able to see what the ECU sees such as intake air temp and rail pressure. I already have a laptop so I am just looking for a cable and software. An info is appreciated.

Thanks

No, don't have one. I think they're a couple hundred dollars. I have seen them discussed on several boards, not sure how well they work on the CAN buss, pretty sure they work good on the OBD2 buss. Do a search & hopefully you'll find out more,

Here is something that I have been thinking about getting. They don't seem to be that expensive either.

ScanGaugeII - Scan Tool + Digital Gauges + Trip Computers

Wow what a cool product! Seems to be a very good price as well. The only reason I wanted something for my laptop was to keep the price down but at $170 how can you go wrong! Displays lots of good stuff. The only thing that I'm skeptical about is how or if you can add other sensors and display them through this unit such as pyrometer and boost. If anyone has this please let me know what you think.

Anybody know of a product that outdoes this one?

I emailed the scan guage company asking if aditional sensors such as pyro can be displayed on the unit. If I recieve a response I will post the answer.

I talked over the phone to a technician from Scan Gauge today. He said that the unit will not be able to display added sensors on the truck unless you can tie them into the ECU :{. Thats to bad this was almost perfect. Does anyone know what exactly the MAP sensor measures. If tapped into would this be like a boost reading. Anybody know of a product similar to this that might allow you to add sensors to be displayed?

Makes you wonder what the dealers are seeing. They supposedly can see a history on your truck along with different parameters stored in the memory of the ECM. Even your driving habits are on there for them to see.

I think I've found the right product for me. The Edge Insight plugs into the OBD and accepts input from a pyro. This covers the major 2 reading (pyro aned boost), the boost is picked up by the MAP sensor. It's more expensive than the Scan Guage but without a pyro input what good is it to me. I figured it and for 3 di pricol guages and all the hardware it would be about the same price as this and a small fraction of the readings. Does anyone have this? Let me know what you think.

Check out www.Auterra.com I have their PDA verison (there is also a PC version), and its really good about pulling codes and checking sensors, including the fuel rail pressure. Plugs into the OBDII port. The latest version works with CAN.

This looks a cool unit but it has no input for a pyrometer as far as I can see. Just like the Scan Guage it's almost there but not quite for me. Very cool tool for the right purposes.

 there are pages worth of data the starscan can see including trip and duty cycle info. Not to mention the actuators and testing plus the flash update capabilities. I have not seen any aftermarket scanners that have full capabilities.

And if you did then the common Joe probably couldn't afford it.
